Supervision of field experience or student teaching
Per Course Part Time Supervision
The department of education is interested in locating people who would like to supervise preservice teachers in their field experiences and student teaching on a per course basis. Our academic year is divided into three ten and a half week terms. Specifically, for the 2012-13 academic year, the department is seeking supervisors in the areas of Physical Education and Foreign Languages (Spanish and German).
General Responsibilities
Field experiences require the supervisor to (a) observe two teaching episodes, evaluate using department forms, and conference twice with preservice teachers, (b) keep account of hours the preservice teacher is spending at the site, (c) manage the paper work for mid-term and final evaluations, (d) submit final grades by the designated due date, and (e) stay in verbal and written contact with the cooperating teacher, department chair, and coordinators of field experience. An assignment of 12 students consitutes a full load.
Student teaching supervision requires (a) the supervisor to meet with his/her group of assigned student teachers the first day of the term, (b) meet two hours for after school seminars every other week with student teachers, (c) create a syllabus of topics discussed and department required experiences used during the seminars, (d) meet with each cooperating teacher during the first week of the term, (e) observe a minimum of four teaching episodes, evaluate using department forms, and conference four times with the student teacher and the cooperating teacher, (f) manage the paper work for mid-term and final evaluations, (g) submit final grades by the designated due date, and (h) stay in verbal and written contact with the cooperating teacher, department chair, and coordinators of field experience. An assignment of 6 student teachers consitutes a full load.
Minimum Qualifications
Masters of arts (or higher) and three years of elementary, middle or secondary teaching experience required.
