The North Central College Athletic Bands plays at the Cardinals’ home football games in the fall and at home basketball games in the winter, providing support for athletes and excitement for fans. The band also travels to select road games and playoff events. The Athletic Bands play at approximately seven football games each fall and a comparable number of basketball games in the winter. The band will likely perform a field show during the 2013 fall term.
Enrollment in the pep band is open to all North Central students. Previous band experience is a plus, but not a requirement for participation. In the fall term, the band is made up of winds (flute, clarinet, saxes, trumpet, horn, trombone, euphonium, and tuba), the drumline (snares, tenors/quads, basses, cymbals), and the Cardinal Colorguard. Participation in the drumline and colorguard is by audition only.
Band Week—a series of rehearsal and social events—is held before the start of each school year. Once classes start, two one-hour rehearsals are scheduled per week. Rehearsal schedules during the fall and winter are flexible to allow students to work around potential conflicts.
Beginning in the 2013 school year, a scholarship is available for Pep Band participation. More information on this scholarship is available at the link on the left side of this page.
For more information regarding scholarships or participation in the band, please contact the athletic band director, Dr. Langston Hemenway at firstname.lastname@example.org, or 630-637-5699. Detailed information can be found in this handbook.
