Kanda University of International Studies (KUIS) is a private university of 3000 students concentrating in international studies, foreign languages, intercultural communication, Japanese culture and linguistics. The modern campus provides the state-of-the-art Self-Access Learning Center, athletic facilities, an international cafeteria, an international office, and a university library.
The university is located along Tokyo Bay between Tokyo and Narita International Airport. International hotels, business centers, apartment complexes, shopping, and several parks are part of the community. A beach, Japanese garden and tea houses are nearby; train service is convenient for students who wish to investigate culture and city life in Tokyo.
Japanese Proficiency documentation required (results from proficiency test or completion of Japanese Language course).
NCC Eligibility Requirements:
Junior or Senior standing. GPA 3.0 preferred; minimum one year of Japanese.
NCC Academic Credit:
Varies by course load; usually 9-12 NCC credits per term.
Housing and Meals:
40000 yen for Sun Park Apartments (Water, Gas, Electricity fees are NOT included). Approximate monthly fees will be 8000-10000 yen.
47000 yen for Yatsu Dorm (Water, Gas, Electricity fees are included in the dorm fees). This dorm is available only for female students).
Meals: Self-cook only, approximately 30000 yen/month, although cost varies for each student.
Students pay tuition and fees to NCC, room and board to KUIS.
Financial aid is applicable to this program, however, all study abroad students should meet with a financial aid representative during the spring term to determine any changes/adjustments in their financial aid package.
Textbooks, 1st semester: 12000-15000 yen; 2nd semester: 5000-7000 yen
- From Sun Park Apartment, students can cycle to the university.
- From Yatsu Dorm, monthly train pass 7550 yen
- Round trip train fare to central Tokyo is 1200 yen
This really depends on the student. Students need to consider all personal spending money including travel! Students who participated in the exchange program last year estimate approximately $2500, including only MINIMAL travel.

National Health Insurance Fee: 16000 yen/year (all students must pay for the entire year but fall term only students will be reimbursed when leaving Japan for months not used).
Please note that all exchange students at KUIS are eligible to receive the KUIS Monthly scholarship of 20000 yen if they have more than 90% attendance rate to the required classes.
