Students must apply for graduation in the Office of the Registrar during the first term of the senior year. A late fee of $100 (effective July 1, 2015 late fee of $150) is imposed if the application is received after the third Monday of the term prior to the term of graduation. A late fee of $150 (effective July 1, 2015 late fee of $200) is imposed if the application is received after the first day of the term of graduation. Exact dates are found on the Graduation Application Schedule. The application can be picked up in our office and is also available online.
Participation in Commencement
Students graduating in September, December, and April are invited to participate in the Commencement ceremonies in June. In addition, students graduating the following September may be granted permission to participate in Commencement if:
- An approved graduation application is on file
- Their current cumulative GPA is 2.000 or higher (3.000 for graduate students) and 2.000 or higher in the major
- They are registered for and will complete graduation requirements by the end of the Summer term.
Students who qualify and wish to take advantage of this option must file both the Commencement Participation Form and the Graduation Application on or before the Monday of the third week of Winter term. If either form is submitted after this date, the late fee structure described above is in effect.
The B.A. and B.S. degrees are awarded summa cum laude (with highest honor) to any graduate whose final cumulative GPA is 3.900 or higher, magna cum laude (with high honor) to any graduate whose final cumulative GPA is 3.750 or higher, and cum laude (with honor) to any graduate whose final cumulative GPA is 3.500 or higher. Note that September graduates who are choosing to participate in Commencement prior to graduation will not be recognized with graduation honors.
