Global Responsibility

Hello there,

I hope you stumble across my blog in good health and happiness.

I'm going to take this time to talk about global responsibility. It is very essential that we not only care about what goes on in America, but we must also help out those less fortunate in other countries! Especially those in third world countries. Summer of 2009 (going into my freshman year at NCC), I went on a service trip to Amachuma, Bolivia, where we stayed at Bethel Hospital, which was under construction (and still is to this day), for over three weeks. We had no heat, radio laptops, and cell phones. We had no luxuries. We did have the ability to boil our water, which is more than many Bolivians can afford. In our time, we helped construct a birthing center in the hospital. It was an incredible experience. I traveled with a few of my teammates and my coach from high school. We had to raise $40,000 dollars to make the trip possible. It took us over two years to complete the fundraising.

Currently, there is another group at Oak Lawn Community High School called Cross Countries. They are in hopes to go back to that same hospital this summer and finish the job. Their task at hand will be to complete the dental wing of the hospital. This group is made up of fine gentlemen who care more about serving the world and making it a better place than about their summer vacation. These selfless individuals are constantly "Striding to promote volunteerism, cultural awareness and global responsibility through international service."

These guys are close to their goal, but don't have much time left to raise the money. If you can help at all, please do so.

Here is a link to their website.

At the very least, take 8 minutes out of your day and watch the video that explains their goal.

All information for the group is on the website.

Thank you so much!!!

Have a great week,

Patrick
