Halloween, as fun as it is, marked a sad day in the Office of Admissions. Kathy Furhman, Manager of Campus Visits and Special Admissions Programs, spent her last day as a member of the office. Kathy is very passionate about service, and will be aspiring to become a reading assistant at Aurora elementary schools. Although she will be moving on to new and exciting things, she is going to be greatly missed!
Even if you don't know her, Kathy has played an integral role in your decision to come to NCC. Any of the campus visits you made or any of the visit days you attended were organized by Kathy (and others). It is her job to ensure that prospective students can see the campus, meet with professors and coaches, and attend classes prior to making their college decision. And as an expert of organization and scheduling, Kathy has done an amazing job.
Beyond excelling at her job, Kathy has become a mentor, supporter and friend to many people on campus, especially the student-workers at the Office of Admissions. Kathy is one of those inherently kind people that make an impact on you regardless of how much time you spend with her. In my two short years as a student-worker, she has been there for me through tough times (like an ambulance ride) and amazing times (like cheering me on at a track meet). Her and her husband, an NCC professor, often attend athletic events like football, basketball and track meets as well as other academic events on campus. She has been a huge part of NCC, and in many ways, NCC won’t be the same without her.
Although I love Joanna, our new front-desk worker, I am going to miss being greeted by Kathy’s bright smile and lengthy post-it note explaining my tour when I come into work on Thursday.
