Yesterday, I traveled to Köln (‘Cologne’ for all you non-German majors). The city is one of the oldest in Germany, having been founded in 50 A.D as a Roman city. It is the fourth largest in Germany, and its Gothic Cathedral is of Germany’s most recognizable symbols. Google it!
I went to Köln with a program from Heidelberg University. They provided the transportation and a tour of the city, so it was a great (and cheap) way for me to make it to such an important city. Along with the cathedral, the city is covered with churches, I learned that there are also 12 Romanesque churches throughout Köln. There are also plenty of museums, and the beautiful Rhine river to look at. Like Heidelberg, the city lies on both sides of the river, and has been a major cultural center for a very long time.
Changing gears a little bit, I’m posting a picture of my outside of the brewery. I go in to work again on Wednesday, and can’t wait. The Christmas Markets are finally up, and I believe they all begin full operation on Wednesday. If you live in Chicago, I know that there is a German Christmas market downtown every year, and although it does not stack up to the German German Markets (surprise, surprise) its worth going to. Check it out, or just hop on a plane and check out the real thing over here. Whatever is easiest.
Louis
