Miss Guido- Writing and Teaching Lessons Left and Right!

Hi, Readers!

This week has been all about education!  First order of business includes a giant CONGRATULATIONS to Josh Stumpenhorst.  Josh was recently named one of the finalists for the Illinois Teacher of the Year and is an alumnus of NCC.  You may ask why I would post about someone who graduated about eight years ago, but I promise that I have an actual reason!  Josh is my brother-in-law and is a teacher here in Naperville.  During Spring '11 I was able to observe in Josh's classroom.  Although I have known Josh for so many years, I had never seen him in the classroom.  My jaw was to the floor while I observed Josh direct student learning in directions that I had never seen before.  All in all, I am incredibly proud of Josh for his hard work, dedication, and the impact he has had on students.  If you would like to read the articles about this honor, the links are here: http://northcentralcollege.edu/news/north-central-college-alumnus-named-... and http://isbe.net/news/2011/sept14.htm

Keeping the education theme going, I will share that I taught my first reading lesson today!  The students were receptive to the lesson and I was able to cover all of my lesson.  My goal for next week is to slow down while I talk.  I want to be effective with each point that I make to my students, so I am motivated to keep my speed under control.  :-)  Plus, next week I am being observed by my supervisor.  As a part of this practicum, a supervisor from NCC observes two lessons that each student teaches.  My lesson for next week is almost complete, and I cannot wait to show my professor!  Two lessons down, three to go!

I have to head to my staff meeting now for Res/Rec, but I'll be sure to update about the 5th graders next week!
