Marcy Thomas was honored with the 2011 Outstanding Major in Studio Art Award and Katherine Hannan was named recipient of the Diane Duvigneaud Senior Art Award during Honors Day May 17 at North Central College.

Thomas is a graduating senior double-majoring in studio art and art history. Hannan is a graduating senior double-majoring in studio art and corporate accounting.

North Central College has named Dr. Abiodun “GP” Goke-Pariola its next vice president for academic affairs and dean of faculty.

North Central College has named Dr. Abiodun “GP” Goke-Pariola its next vice president for academic affairs and dean of faculty.

Dr. Goke-Pariola will begin his new role at North Central College on July 1 after serving most recently as provost and vice president for academic affairs at Queens University of Charlotte in North Carolina. He previously served as provost and vice president for academic affairs at Otterbein University in Westerville, Ohio.

North Central College will showcase a collection of couture dresses by Chicago multimedia artist Carrie Ann Schumacher Dec. 12 through Feb. 1.

The exhibit, titled “Build Her a Myth,” is free and open to the public in the College’s Schoenherr Gallery at the Fine Arts Center, 171 E. Chicago Ave., Naperville. An artist reception will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 12; complimentary refreshments will be served.

North Central College is establishing an innovative academic program in Middle Eastern and North African studies that will include language courses in Arabic.

North Central College is establishing an innovative academic program in Middle Eastern and North African studies that will include language courses in Arabic. The new program is partially funded by a U.S. Department of Education grant.

Beginning in fall 2015 the College will offer a minor in Middle Eastern and North African (MENA) studies, significantly expand Oesterle Library’s holdings in MENA studies and introduce students to cultural experiences in the Chicago area and abroad.

North Central College welcomes Riad Ismat as scholar-in-residence for the 2014-2015 academic year. Ismat will serve as visiting professor of arts and letters. He will teach courses in playwriting, acting and directing, besides lecturing on Syria, Arabic literature and drama.

A new residence hall on North Central College’s 65-acre campus will offer desirable suite-style housing for upperclassmen.

A new residence hall on North Central College’s 65-acre campus will offer desirable suite-style housing for upperclassmen.

The 229-bed residence hall is being built directly south of Ward and Patterson halls and across from Merner Field House and Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium. The five-story residence hall—the College’s first since the Residence Hall/Recreation Center opened in 2009—is scheduled for completion by August 2015.
