North Central College presents the solo exhibition “The Anatomy of Emotion,” featuring the artwork of junior Lauren Denler through March 29.

In a collection of mixed media, ceramics and sculptures, “The Anatomy of Emotion” showcases Denler’s avid research and interest in the exploration of the human figure and the fragmented body. The free exhibit is on display through March 29 in the College’s Meiley-Swallow Hall Gallery, 31 S. Ellsworth St. An artist’s reception will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, March 13, in the gallery; complimentary refreshments will be served.

North Central College has expanded its commitment to sustainability by investing more than $200,000 to replace old fixtures with energy-efficient LED lighting.

North Central College has expanded its commitment to sustainability by investing more than $200,000 to replace old fixtures with energy-efficient LED lighting.

The most recent upgrades to lighting in the College’s geothermal-controlled, LEED-certified Residence Hall/Recreation Center and in the Harold and Eva White Activities Center are estimated to save the College an additional $35,000 annually in electricity costs. The projects are supported by a $67,989 grant from the Illinois Clean Energy Community Foundation's Energy Efficiency Lighting Upgrade Program.

Currently a visiting scholar-in-residence at North Central College for the 2014-2015 academic year, Ismat will speak on “Theatre and Diplomacy” at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 18, in the College’s Smith Hall at Old Main, 30 N. Brainard St.

Music students appreciate having a fresh pair of ears critique their performances, especially when they are the ears of a world-class artist.

North Central College voice students experienced hands-on instruction from lyric soprano Sarah Wolfson during a master class on the stage of the College’s acoustically magnificent Wentz Concert Hall. The 90-minute session Feb. 5 covered topics ranging from physical techniques that improve sound to using facial expressions to advance narratives created by composers.

Art students at North Central College have been chosen to showcase their work, Feb.6 through March 30, at the Paramount Theatre Art Gallery in Aurora as part of Paramount’s Aspiring Artists series.

Titled “People, Places and Things,” the exhibit will feature a variety of media, including oil and acrylic paintings, drawings and photography by eight North Central students and works of art by Nick Freeman and Scott Harding. An opening reception will take place 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6, at the Paramount Theatre, 23 E. Galena Blvd. Complimentary refreshments will be served.

A collection of mixed media, drawings and paintings, “Potentially Permanent” showcases the artist’s avid research and interest in the simplistic designs of the traditional tattoo style. The free exhibit is on display in the College’s Meiley-Swallow Hall Gallery, 31 S. Ellsworth St. An artist’s reception will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, in the gallery; light refreshments will be served.
