North Central student Jacqueline Roller hosted her first solo art show July 16 at the Naperville Art League. The Naperville resident plans to complete her studies in 2012 with a double-major in studio art and psychology.

Barry Skurkis, associate professor of art, is one of three dozen artists showcasing their art in an exhibit titled “In Bloom” at the gardens and fountains at Oakbrook Center. Some 30 fiberglass sculptures and 11 fine art sculptures decorated by artists or artist groups will be on display through Sept. 20 as part of a good cause and fundraising effort.

Seniors showcase their artwork in two galleries

Artwork by 13 North Central College seniors will be featured in an exhibit at two campus galleries, May 14 through June 12, with artists’ reception May 22.

May 6, 2011—Artwork by 13 North Central College seniors will be featured in an exhibit at two campus galleries, May 14 through June 12. The works will include paintings, drawings, mixed media, ceramics and sculpture.

The Senior Art Show is free and open to the public and will be on display in the Oesterle Library Gallery, 320 E. School St., and the Meiley-Swallow Hall Gallery, 31 S. Ellsworth St., both in Naperville. Students will greet visitors during an artists’ reception from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, May 22, in both locations. Complimentary refreshments will be served.

Michael Reedy showed a collection of his artwork, titled “Recent Works,” at The Kishwaukee College Art Gallery in Malta, IL. Recognized with numerous awards, his work has been widely exhibited across the country in a variety of local, regional and international exhibitions and can be viewed in many notable private and institutional collections.

Michelle Phillip Junkin is a co-op member of the “In Your Eye Gallery” in the Paseo Arts District and is a member of the Oklahoma Artist Guild and the Paseo Arts Association. She works in a variety of media, including acrylic, mixed media, clay monoprinting and ceramics, and her artwork has been accepted into juried national shows and displayed locally and in regional competitions.

North Central College alumna and trustee Maria Wynne has been named a founding member of the Chicago Innovation Awards Board of Advisors.

May 5, 2011—North Central College alumna and trustee Maria Wynne has been named a founding member of the Chicago Innovation Awards Board of Advisors.

The Chicago Innovation Awards, which started in 2002 to honor new products and services across the local public, private and non-profit sectors, invited Wynne to join its newly created 40-member advisory board. The board is comprised of business and civic leaders who understand the importance of innovation and what it means to the success of the Chicago region and the growth of its economy.

Chicago Term includes new residential option fall term

North Central College students who want to learn about and experience Chicago Term firsthand can now live in Tailor Loft Apartments fall or spring terms.

For the first time, in fall 2011 and spring 2012, North Central College students have the option to live in Chicago while they study as part of the Chicago Term academic program. Students who have a taste for Chicago and want to learn about and experience the nation’s third largest city firsthand, should consider signing up for a Chicago Term.

Feb. 23, 2011—Benjamin Buchenot, Class of 2005, spent a day at his alma mater sharing tips with art students about creating and marketing their art work.

Art students watched Buchenot demonstrate how he works with clay on a wheel and listened to him describe how he throws clay and uses tools to make walls. He also shared tips on how to clean up pieces more easily, and fielded questions from students on such topics as properly pricing and photographing pieces.

Benjamin Buchenot, Class of 2005, is on campus today, Thursday, Feb. 17, as a visiting artist from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Meiley-Swallow Hall. He was named North Central’s 2005 Outstanding Major in Art and is currently finishing his M.F.A. at Marywood University in Scranton, Pa.
