Kelsey VandenBerg was awarded the Outstanding Major in Biochemistry Award during North Central College’s 2014 Honors Convocation.

Kelsey VandenBerg, daughter of Susan Murphy and the late Ronald VandenBerg of Davenport, Iowa, was awarded the Outstanding Major in Biochemistry Award during Honors Convocation May 13 at North Central College.

Kelsey, a senior, is majoring in biochemistry at North Central. She will be pursuing a master of science in global health at the University of Notre Dame in the fall. She is a graduate of Davenport Central High School.

Undergraduate and graduate students attending any college or university can enroll in summer credit courses at North Central College.

Registration is underway for a variety of undergraduate and graduate-level courses that often can be applied toward graduation requirements at a student’s home institution. Class sessions are offered in four- and eight-week terms, starting June 16. The second four-week term starts July 14.

The Goldwater Scholar program is highly competitive and represents the highest national award given to undergraduates who plan to pursue careers in science and math research.

North Central College will send a record 44 students to the prestigious National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR) April 3-5 at the University of Kentucky in Lexington. Forty proposals submitted by these students were accepted for presentation.

The North Central College Board of Trustees has selected a location for a new science center.

During its annual fall meeting the North Central College Board of Trustees selected a location for a new science center that will create exciting new educational opportunities for students and transform the campus.

After careful consideration the Board has determined that the new science center will be located south of Van Buren Avenue between Loomis and Brainard streets, within the boundaries of the College and University District designated by the City of Naperville.

North Central College invites area teachers, students and budding scientists of all ages to attend a free lecture and demonstration on Oct. 17 by award-winning chemistry teacher Jeff Hepburn.

Titled “A Magical Chemistry Extravaganza,” the free program will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, in North Central’s Pfeiffer Hall, 310 E. Benton Ave., Naperville. It is cohosted by North Central College’s chemistry department and ChemWest, a nonprofit networking group for chemistry teachers.

North Central College began the 2013-2014 academic year Sept. 16 with a record number of students.

North Central College began the 2013-2014 academic year Sept. 16 with a record number of students.

Total enrollment stands at 3,048 undergraduate and graduate students, eclipsing the 3,000 mark for the second straight year. The College welcomed 852 new full-time undergraduate students. Enrollment this fall includes a record number of international students and increased representation of out-of-state students and veterans.
