Amy Krenn was honored with the 2011 Outstanding Major in Biology Award during Honors Day May 17 at North Central College.

Krenn is a graduating senior majoring in biology with a minor in secondary education. At North Central in spring 2011, she participated in a Biology-Chemistry Interdisciplinary Seminar, presenting the paper, "The Effects of an Inquiry Based Saturday Science Program on the Interest Levels and Development of Science Processing Skills in Fourth and Fifth Grade Girls."

Cancer researcher returns to North Central to guest lecture science courses

Zach Pratt, a 2005 alumnus who recently completed his doctorate in cancer biology, returned to North Central to guest lecture some biology courses.

Zach Pratt hopes to combine his passion for scientific research with his knack for teaching.

Since earning his bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from North Central in 2005, Pratt has completed his doctorate in cancer biology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He returned to North Central in February 2011 to guest lecture some biology courses, using bacteria to teach a lesson in evolution.

Three teams of computer science students from North Central College continued their tradition of excellence at the 2015 Associated Colleges of the Chicagoland Area (ACCA) computer programming competition held Feb. 21 at Benedictine University in Lisle.

Taking first place in the advanced division were team members Chase Smith, a senior computer science major from Aurora; Ian Braun, a junior biochemistry major from Naperville; and Brett Bush, a senior computer science major from Clarendon Hills.

North Central College has expanded its commitment to sustainability by investing more than $200,000 to replace old fixtures with energy-efficient LED lighting.

North Central College has expanded its commitment to sustainability by investing more than $200,000 to replace old fixtures with energy-efficient LED lighting.

The most recent upgrades to lighting in the College’s geothermal-controlled, LEED-certified Residence Hall/Recreation Center and in the Harold and Eva White Activities Center are estimated to save the College an additional $35,000 annually in electricity costs. The projects are supported by a $67,989 grant from the Illinois Clean Energy Community Foundation's Energy Efficiency Lighting Upgrade Program.

With a record number of students and accepted presentations to NCUR, North Central College has the most accepted proposals of any college in Illinois.

North Central College will send a record 59 students to the 29th annual National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR) to be held April 16-18 at the Eastern Washington University in Cheney, Wash.

NCUR is an interdisciplinary conference where students representing universities and colleges from around the world share their research and creative works in oral, poster and performance/visual arts presentations. Some 391 academic institutions will participate in this year’s NCUR gathering of young scholars.
