Thomas Kauffman '71

Thomas Kauffman is a doctor of dental surgery in Atlanta. He has been involved in dental health care for 38 years. After graduating from North Central, he received his D.D.S. from Loyola University in Chicago. Kauffman completed his general practice residency in the U.S. Army Dental Corps and opened his own private dental practice in 1977.

Curtis Herink '72

Curtis Herink is a professor of mathematics at Mercer University in Macon, GA. He has been teaching college mathematics full time since completing his Ph.D. at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1977.

Beth E. Hothan-Zielinski '77

Beth E. Hothan-Zielinski, M.D., is a general surgeon and owner and president of Surgical Services of Mount Pleasant. She graduated from the University of Illinois Medical School in 1981 and from St. Francis Medical Center in general surgery in 1986. She resides in Mount Pleasant, IA, with her husband James and two children, Patrick and Riley.

Maureen Oskandy '79

Maureen Oskandy, M.D., is a board-certified family physician for the Campus Health Service at the University of Arizona. She has worked with the Indian Health Service (IHS), had a full-spectrum family practice for eight years at Thomas-Davis Clinic and taught medical students for 15 years. After graduating from North Central, Oskandy received her M.D. in 1982 from Loyola-Stritch Medical School in Chicago.

Kevin A. Brown '86

Kevin A. Brown received a Pacesetter Award as the lead of a project with five other co-workers at Argonne National Laboratory. He has been a coordinating writer and editor and has served the laboratory since 1989. He resides in Plainfield, IL, with his wife Michele T. Murray ’86/M ’95 and their two daughters.

Jenny Kintzele Orsburn '01

Jenny Kintzele Orsburn is the superintendent of the City of Portage Parks and Recreation Department in Indiana. She was previously the program specialist for Indiana’s Lake Michigan Coastal Program at the Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) where she administered grant programs for environmental improvement along Indiana’s coastline. Britni Miller graduated from the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine with her doctor of veterinary medicine. She resides in Sycamore, IL.

North Central College shares science instruments with high school chemistry students

North Central College hosted chemistry students from Naperville North High School on a field trip to use the College’s spectroscopy equipment.

Chemistry students from Naperville North High School learned what it’s like to use sophisticated scientific instrumentation during a recent field trip to North Central College.

Sixteen Naperville North students worked with Jeff Bjorklund, North Central College professor of chemistry, during the Nov. 12 field trip. They learned how to use the College’s spectroscopy instruments to determine the chemical properties of samples they were provided.

North Central College to honor professor and scientist Fred Janzen with a 2012 Outstanding Alumni Award during Homecoming Convocation Oct. 26.

North Central College is honoring Fred Janzen, Ph.D., of Ames, Iowa, with a 2012 Outstanding Alumni Award.

Janzen and five others will be honored during the College’s Homecoming Convocation at 4:15 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, at North Central College’s Wentz Concert Hall at the Fine Arts Center, 171 E. Chicago Ave., Naperville.
