North Central College began the 2013-2014 academic year Sept. 16 with a record number of students.

Total enrollment stands at 3,048 undergraduate and graduate students, eclipsing the 3,000 mark for the second straight year. The College welcomed 852 new full-time undergraduate students. Enrollment this fall includes a record number of international students and increased representation of out-of-state students and veterans.

New North Central College students discover possibilities during Orientation

From study abroad courses to athletic teams to clubs and organizations, Orientation serves to inform students about options so they can begin to plan their years of study and make the most of their experience at North Central College.

North Central College students will discuss their scholarly work Aug. 1 during the poster session of the 2013 Summer Undergraduate Research Colloquium (SURC).

The SURC poster session takes place from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 1 in Smith Hall of Old Main, 30 N. Brainard St. (The session previously was scheduled to take place in Heininger Auditorium at the Larrance Academic Center). Most of the 40 students who participated in the 2013 SURC will be present.

Clara Hur earns Outstanding Major in East Asian Studies Award

Clara Hur received the Outstanding Major in East Asian Studies Award during the 2013 Honors Convocation at North Central College.

Clara Hur, daughter of Joe and Francesca Hur of Fox River Grove, Ill., was awarded the Outstanding Major in East Asian Studies Award during Honors Day May 14 at North Central College.

A junior, Hur has a double major in Japanese and East Asian Studies with a focus on Japan at North Central College. She is a graduate of Palatine High School.

Kaitlyn Gordon earns Outstanding Major in Japanese Award

Kaitlyn Gordon received the Outstanding Major in Japanese Award during the 2013 Honors Convocation at North Central College.

Kaitlyn Gordon of Orland Park, Ill., was awarded the Outstanding Major in Japanese Award during Honors Day May 14 at North Central College.

A junior, Kaitlyn is a triple major in Japanese, global studies/international relations and East Asian studies/Japanese at North Central College.

Experience Japanese culture during Japanese Spring Festival

North Central College’s Japan Club and Japanese program present annual Japanese Spring Festival May 6 with music, food, games, art and more.

North Central College’s Japan Club and Japanese program will present their Japanese Spring Festival from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, May 6, in the Harold and Eva White Activities Center. The event is free.

The annual festival takes place in May, which is the Asian-Pacific American Heritage Month in the United States. In Japan, it’s the time to celebrate Children’s Day (May 5) and enjoy a weeklong vacation called Golden Week and spring weather.

All pieces displayed in “Digital Design” are computer-generated and include print posters, motion graphics and animation created by seniors Amber Dvorak of Schiller Park; Tanya Fetzer of Richmond, Ill.; Samantha Suarez of Romeoville; and Sarah Wilm of Westmont. The exhibit runs April 6 through May 3 in the Oesterle Library Gallery, 320 E. School St., Naperville. An artist reception will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 9; complimentary refreshments will be served.

For 17 years, North Central College has welcomed members of the community to its annual International Festival to experience different cultures from around the world and around the corner. This year’s International Festival takes place from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 27, in the College’s Merner Field House, 450 S. Brainard St., Naperville.
