Roger Ulrich '53

Roger Ulrich has published a book titled “Toward Living Well With Less” that compiles his own writings and articles written by others about him and the Lake Village Homestead Farm Cooperative in Kalamazoo, MI. The result is a story of his transitioning back to the roots of his Amish-Mennonite heritage, which resulted in the Lake Village farm. He has spent four decades there with the goal of returning to a simpler life and respecting the environment.

Two North Central College students have developed a mobile app for friends to share pictures of food they like.

Two North Central College students have developed a mobile app for friends to share pictures of food they like.

Entrepreneurs Jeremy Markham ’15 and Kyler Juckins ’15 are the creators of DinnDinn, a smart phone app for food lovers. DinnDinn works like a virtual refrigerator. Users upload photos of food, drinks and other items to their page and rate them. Their friends and followers, known as “taste buds,” can comment on the posts.

North Central College student Maria Gommel honored as 2012 Lincoln Laureate

The Lincoln Academy of Illinois is honoring North Central College Goldwater Scholar Maria Gommel as a 2012 Lincoln Laureate.

Maria Gommel has been named North Central College’s 2012 Lincoln Laureate.

Gommel is a senior from Malta, Ill., who is double-majoring in actuarial science and mathematics and minoring in economics. She intends to pursue a doctorate in mathematics after graduation.

She is a participant in North Central’s College Scholars Honors Program for high-achieving undergraduates. She spent a year working with two other students and mathematics professor Linda Gao on mathematical modeling research in epidemiology.
