Kelly Rasmussen, daughter of Lyle and Mimi Rasmussen of Rockton, Ill., was awarded the Outstanding Major in English Award during Honors Day May 13 at North Central College in Naperville.

A senior, Kelly is a double major in English: writing and Spanish at North Central College. She is a graduate of Hononegah Community High School.

The talents of North Central College students again garnered national recognition with a first-place award for a new student-run website, ncclinked.com. The College Media Association held a convention and awards ceremony March 15 in New York City and North Central’s Chronicle staff competed among schools of all sizes in the online award category. John Madormo, North Central College assistant professor of broadcast communication and general manager of WONC-FM 89.1, was recognized by the Illinois Reading Council at a Celebration of Literacy event March 12 at the Old State Capitol Historic Site in Springfield, Ill.

The Illinois Reading Council chose Madormo’s first book, “The Homemade Stuffing Caper” in the “Charlie Collier: Snoop for Hire” series, to promote statewide in the third- to fifth-grade category for the 2014-2015 academic school year.
