Marketing, finance alumna Sarah Ackerman honored as a 'Rising Star'

Sarah Ackerman, who earned a bachelor's degree in marketing and finance from North Central College in 2006, has been honored with a "Rising Star" award.

Sarah Ackerman, who earned a bachelor's degree in marketing and finance from North Central College in 2006, has been honored with a "Rising Star" award by a pair of special events trade groups.

Ackerman works for GEP Destination Management in the Atlanta area. Each year the Greater Atlanta Chapters of the International Special Events Society (ISES) and the National Association of Catering Executives (NACE) produce the Allie Awards.

North Central College has introduced a distinctive new Master of International Business Administration (MIBA) degree, the first in the Chicago region.

March 27, 2012—North Central College has introduced a distinctive new Master of International Business Administration (MIBA) degree. It is the Chicago region’s only such graduate-level program with an explicit focus on international business.

With more than 95 percent of the world’s population living outside the United States, North Central College recognizes that employers increasingly need managers who are equipped with international experience and specialized training to take their work to the global marketplace.

Doh-Khul Kim, North Central College associate professor of economics and finance, presented paper at conference and published two papers in economic journals.

Doh-Khul Kim, associate professor of economics and finance, presented his paper, titled “Inflation and Equity Market: Sectoral-level Analyses,” at 39th Annual Conference of Academy of Economics and Finance held in Charleston, S.C., Feb. 8-11. The conference focused on contemporary issues and teaching methodology related to economics and finance.

Record 45 North Central students to present at NCUR

For third straight year, a record number of students will represent North Central College at the National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR).

For the third consecutive year, a record number of students from North Central College will participate in the nation’s leading conference on undergraduate research.

Forty-five students will represent North Central at the annual National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR) March 29-31 at Weber State University in Ogden, Utah. No other college or university in Illinois will send more students to this prestigious conference.

North Central College alumnus Don Pilmer ’87 has been promoted to executive vice president and head of commercial banking with Aurora-based Old Second Bank.

A lifelong Aurora resident, he began his banking career at Old Second more than 20 years ago and has spent the majority of his service in commercial banking and branch development.

Pilmer earned a bachelor of arts degree in communications from North Central College where he also contributed to The Chronicle campus newspaper. He later earned an M.B.A. from Aurora University. He is

"My teachers care about me and will help me succeed in any way." In fact, Peter says, "The professors care about all the students' success and treat them as people, not numbers."

But numbers is what Peter is studying--particularly, numbers related to finance.

"I love learning how money changes hands and the countless ways money can be made and lost in the markets. I've always been interested in investment tools and how they work and, now, learning about the economy and why our country and European countries are having financial crises."

Peter says the education he's received at North Central has put him in a position to be successful and find his place in the world. "My professors and the school's Career Development office have presented me with opportunities and helped me look for internships and jobs and more."
