NAPERVILLE, Ill. (Nov. 16, 2010)—North Central College is offering a new option to earn both a bachelor’s degree and a master of leadership studies degree in just five years.
Students accepted into this program earn both a bachelor’s degree—in any discipline—and the master of leadership studies with the completion of 141 credit hours.
Like many students who take "Women and Men in Society" to fulfill a general education requirement, Kelly was exposed to ideas she had never before considered. By the end of the course, she was hooked on gender and women’s studies. "I had always been interested in women's rights,” she says, “but I didn't realize how much I was interested until I took that class." Through her close ties with faculty, Kelly secured an internship as a legal advocate in the Domestic Violence Courthouse in Chicago. That experience helped her discover her life's work. "I’m getting experience in the field that I would like to work in after graduation—legal advocacy for women," she says.
Wioleta Polinska, associate professor of religious studies and chair of philosophy and religious studies, participated in the Institute on Infusing South Asian Studies into the Undergraduate Curriculum, July 12-30, at the East-West Center in Honolulu. The institute was directed by Arindam Chakrabarti, professor of philosophy at the University of Hawaii.
