North Central College students will discuss their scholarly work Aug. 1 during the poster session of the 2013 Summer Undergraduate Research Colloquium (SURC).

The SURC poster session takes place from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 1 in Smith Hall of Old Main, 30 N. Brainard St. (The session previously was scheduled to take place in Heininger Auditorium at the Larrance Academic Center). Most of the 40 students who participated in the 2013 SURC will be present.

Ian Wright earns Outstanding Major in Global Studies Award

Ian Wright received the Outstanding Major in Global Studies Award during the 2013 Honors Convocation at North Central College.

Ian Wright, son of Kevin and Deborah Wright of New Lenox, Ill., was awarded the Outstanding Major in Global Studies Award during Honors Day May 14 at North Central College.

A junior, Ian is majoring in studio art and global studies with a focus on Europe at North Central College. He was home-schooled.

Ian visited the Czech Republic during North Central’s winter term 2013 and took a photo that received first place in the Office of International Program’s photo contest. Ian’s name has regularly appeared on the Dean’s List.

Alexander Pirela earns two awards at Honors Convocation

Alexander Pirela receives Outstanding Major in Social Science/History and Outstanding Service to Student Life awards at North Central’s 2013 Honors Convocation.

Alexander Pirela, son of Pablo and Barbara Pirela of West Chicago, Ill., received two awards—the Outstanding Major in Social Science/History Award and the Outstanding Service to Student Life Award—during Honors Day May 14 at North Central College in Naperville, Ill.

A senior, Alexander is majoring in global studies/developing states and in social science/history at North Central College. He is a graduate of Community High School District 94.

Kaitlyn Gordon earns Outstanding Major in Japanese Award

Kaitlyn Gordon received the Outstanding Major in Japanese Award during the 2013 Honors Convocation at North Central College.

Kaitlyn Gordon of Orland Park, Ill., was awarded the Outstanding Major in Japanese Award during Honors Day May 14 at North Central College.

A junior, Kaitlyn is a triple major in Japanese, global studies/international relations and East Asian studies/Japanese at North Central College.

North Central College introduces intensive English language program to boost international enrollment

North Central College will launch full-time intensive English language program for international students this September.

North Central College will begin offering a full-time, intensive English language program through its new English Language Institute (ELI) in September. ELI is designed to prepare international students for admission to North Central or to another U.S. college or university by developing academic, professional and social English language skills.

North Central forensics places third in state, sets record for national qualifiers

North Central College students win 12 awards at state championship forensic tournament, set program record for national contest by qualifying in 29 events.

Eighteen North Central College students were among some 200 forensic competitors in speech and debate at the Illinois Intercollegiate Forensics Association State Tournament (IIFA), hosted by Northern Illinois University March 1-2.

North Central College brought home 12 awards. Among them were two Sweepstakes Awards: The College won Third Place Team award in the State of Illinois, and David DePino ’13, majoring in speech communication and history, claimed Third Place Overall Individual Student in Illinois award.

Five North Central College students give presentations based on international studies, coursework at College’s annual symposium on global human rights.

When North Central College recently hosted its second symposium on global human rights, the event included student presentations in addition to keynote addresses by experts in the field of global and environmental health.

North Central College on March 11 will host an information session about its master of business administration (MBA) and master of international business administration (MIBA) graduate programs.

Registration begins at 5:45 p.m. Monday, March 11, in the third-floor conference area of the Residence Hall/Recreation Center, 440 S. Brainard St. Participants will have the opportunity to meet faculty, discuss the curriculum, speak with current students about study abroad opportunities, and learn about the admission process and financial aid.
