Hundreds of North Central College students will study abroad, participate in service trips, enroll in Verandah courses and take advantage of other distinctive opportunities during D-Term.

D-Term is a three-week period between Thanksgiving and Christmas that offers students possibilities to engage in life-enriching experiences.

This year’s study abroad destinations include France, China, London, Argentina and Uruguay, the Netherlands and Luxembourg, Italy and Greece, Germany and Costa Rica.

North Central College began the 2013-2014 academic year Sept. 16 with a record number of students.

Total enrollment stands at 3,048 undergraduate and graduate students, eclipsing the 3,000 mark for the second straight year. The College welcomed 852 new full-time undergraduate students. Enrollment this fall includes a record number of international students and increased representation of out-of-state students and veterans.

North Central College students will discuss their scholarly work Aug. 1 during the poster session of the 2013 Summer Undergraduate Research Colloquium (SURC).

North Central College students will discuss their scholarly work Aug. 1 during the poster session of the 2013 Summer Undergraduate Research Colloquium (SURC).

The SURC poster session takes place from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 1 in Smith Hall of Old Main, 30 N. Brainard St. (The session previously was scheduled to take place in Heininger Auditorium at the Larrance Academic Center). Most of the 40 students who participated in the 2013 SURC will be present.

Szymon Kesek earns three awards at Honors Convocation

Szymon Kesek earned the outstanding major awards in political science, philosophy, and Human Thought & Behavior Division at North Central’s Honors Convocation.

Szymon Kesek, son of Jan Kesek and Barbara Szczepanik-Kesek of Schiller Park, Ill., received three awards during Honors Day May 14 at North Central College. Those awards are the Outstanding Major in Political Science, the Outstanding Major in Philosophy, and the Outstanding Student in the Human Thought and Behavior Division.

A junior, Szymon has a double major in political science and philosophy with a minor in history of ideas at North Central College. He is a graduate of East Leyden High School.
