July 1, 2011—North Central College’s Leadership, Ethics and Values (LEV) program recently cosponsored the first National Faith, Justice and Civic Learning Conference with DePaul University, providing students and staff the opportunity to present three sessions on various topics.

North Central journalism students mentor middle school newspaper club

Students in North Central College’s journalism program teamed up with budding middle school journalists to show them the ins and outs of newspaper and online production.

Staff at A. Vito Martinez Middle School reached out to Kay O’Donnell, assistant professor of journalism at North Central, to arrange for students in their newspaper club to spend a day building their reporting and writing skills with North Central students.

For the second year in a row, the North Central College Mock Trial team advances to the American Mock Trial Association Opening Round Championship Series.

‘Out with the old in with the new’ theme earns Chronicle multiple awards

The Chronicle wins multiple awards, including second place for Best Website by Associated Collegiate Press & six awards by Illinois College Press Association.

North Central College’s journalism students have kicked up their skill level a few hundred notches with new print designs for the Chronicle and a user-friendly website called NCClinked.com. Their hard work in developing a new face for the student news operation hasn’t gone unnoticed in the journalism world.

North Central College senior Kevin Driscoll wins top scholarship from Publicity Club of Chicago

The Publicity Club of Chicago awards Kevin Driscoll ’16 its highest scholarship “to support the next generation of talented public relations professionals.”

The Publicity Club of Chicago (PCC) has awarded North Central College senior Kevin Driscoll its top scholarship award. Only three local public relations-focused students received scholarships from PCC and Driscoll won the highest award at $1,000.

Driscoll, of Lemont, received the award—which represents the PCC’s “commitment to supporting the next generation of talented public relations professionals”—at its December luncheon meeting.

Students display 29 pieces of art at professional exhibit

Fifteen art students were chosen to showcase their artwork at the Paramount Theatre Art Gallery through March.

The artwork of 15 students at North Central College will be showcased at the Paramount Theatre Art Gallery in Aurora as part of the 2016 Paramount Grand Gallery. The free exhibit will be on display through March 28.

Students and pieces of artwork were selected by North Central College Associate Professor of Art Barry Skurkis, who works with the curator of the gallery. The diverse collection includes 29 pieces of art created with mixed media, oils, acrylic on canvas, wood, tar, watercolor and more.
