North Central College is launching a new media studies department that combines journalism, broadcast communication and interactive media studies.

North Central College is launching a new media studies department this fall to prepare students for the increasingly dynamic media field. The new department combines journalism, broadcast communication and interactive media studies (IMS). The popular IMS major blends art, computer science, English and communication.

North Central is host site for Naperville Independent Film Festival in September

North Central College will present 18 foreign films, Sept. 14-19, in Smith Hall at Old Main, as a screen location for the Naperville Independent Film Festival.

North Central College is again a host site for the Naperville Independent Film Festival (NIFF), now in its seventh year. Starting Sept. 14, Smith Hall in Old Main, 30 N. Brainard St., will showcase foreign films that have won awards at Paris’ European Film Festival, or the ECU.

Alumna discovers her radio fellowship has a North Central connection

Journalism major Laurel White ’10 is named Lee Ester News Fellow at Wisconsin Public Radio, a position named for a College alumnus.

Laurel White ’10 always thought of herself as a “print” person, so she spent her years at North Central climbing the editorial ladder of the student-run newspaper, The Chronicle, and squeezing in a term as a DJ at WONC-FM 89.1.

Distinguished professionals share expertise with North Central graduate programs

North Central College’s new MBA/MIBA Advisory Board features 15 distinguished business professionals.

Entrepreneurs who have founded their own companies, senior leaders with major corporations and North Central College alumni are sharing their expertise to benefit the College’s graduate programs.

A new, 15-member Advisory Board has formed to advocate for the College’s master of business administration (MBA) and master of international business administration (MIBA) programs.

Deepayan always wanted to be an artist. By majoring in interactive media studies, he was able to merge that passion with his skills in technology.

“It’s a good way to combine both interests into something that allows me to express myself artistically and further my career goals,” he says.

Deepayan gained real-world experience as a student-designer in North Central College’s Office of Marketing and Communications, sharpening his design skills within a workplace setting. He also found an outlet for creative expression as layout editor for The Kindling, North Central’s student-run humor magazine.

Deepayan hopes to work as a magazine layout editor or graphic designer. He also dreams of creating his own Chicagoland art publication.

“It would be a platform for upcoming artists in the area to showcase their work. I could also feature my own artwork, writing and designs.”

The Princeton Review has once again named North Central College a Best Midwestern College in its annual survey of the nation’s best colleges.

The Princeton Review has once again named North Central College a Best Midwestern College in its annual survey of the nation’s best colleges.

North Central College is included in The Princeton Review’s college guide, “The Best 379 Colleges, 2015 Edition.” The guide surveys more than 130,000 college students nationwide to determine the top 15 percent of about 2,900 four-year institutions nationwide.

The magazine profiles the top 650 of the nearly 2,500 four-year institutions of higher learning in the United States. Forbes ranks North Central College No. 490 overall, No. 333 among private colleges and No. 117 in the Midwest.
