Hundreds of North Central College students will study abroad, participate in service trips, enroll in Verandah courses and take advantage of other distinctive opportunities during D-Term.

D-Term is a three-week period between Thanksgiving and Christmas that offers students possibilities to engage in life-enriching experiences.

This year’s study abroad destinations include France, China, London, Argentina and Uruguay, the Netherlands and Luxembourg, Italy and Greece, Germany and Costa Rica.

The article, “Civic Learning on a Global Scale: The Middle East as a Learning Lab,” is authored by Whitney Roberts ’08, M ’13, assistant director of ministry and service.

Wendy Koenig, North Central College associate professor of art, presented a paper, titled “New Approaches to Oral Testimony,” as part of the panel The Practice and Politics of Commemoration at the 11th Biennial International Holocaust Studies Conference at Middle Tennessee State University on Oct. 17. Her research into the use of audio and video testimony in Holocaust museums is an outgrowth of earlier work on acoustic design and the use of sound in Holocaust and other atrocity museum exhibits.

North Central College began the 2013-2014 academic year Sept. 16 with a record number of students.

North Central College began the 2013-2014 academic year Sept. 16 with a record number of students.

Total enrollment stands at 3,048 undergraduate and graduate students, eclipsing the 3,000 mark for the second straight year. The College welcomed 852 new full-time undergraduate students. Enrollment this fall includes a record number of international students and increased representation of out-of-state students and veterans.

North Central College students will discuss their scholarly work Aug. 1 during the poster session of the 2013 Summer Undergraduate Research Colloquium (SURC).

The SURC poster session takes place from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 1 in Smith Hall of Old Main, 30 N. Brainard St. (The session previously was scheduled to take place in Heininger Auditorium at the Larrance Academic Center). Most of the 40 students who participated in the 2013 SURC will be present.
