Alyssa Allgood was awarded the Clarence Juhnke Outstanding Music Major Award during North Central College’s 2014 Honors Convocation.

Alyssa Allgood, daughter of Steve Allgood and Nicole Rivera of Forest Park, was awarded the Clarence Juhnke Outstanding Music Major Award during Honors Day May 13 at North Central College in Naperville, Ill.

A senior, Alyssa is a double major in music and organizational communication at North Central College. She is a graduate of Westmont High School.

Music education program receives Collegiate Chapter Growth Award from NAfME

North Central College’s music education program and its student chapter were recently recognized by the National Association for Music Education (NAfME), the professional organization for music educators.

The North Central College chapter was presented with a NAfME Collegiate Chapter Growth Award for 2013-2014. Awarded to chapters that increase their membership over the previous year, the distinction recognizes programs that have “demonstrated a high level of dedication and effort to the benefit of members’ professional development.”

Chilcott worked with the College’s Concert Choir, Chamber Singers and Women’s Chorale. He came to Naperville as part of the upcoming Young Naperville Singers 30th Anniversary Concert held on campus May 4 at Wentz Concert Hall.

TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Kirk presented alongside Dr. Lee Weisert, assistant professor of music at UNC-Chapel Hill.

North Central’s Concert Choir, Women’s Chorale, Chamber Singers, Cardinal Chorus present concert at Fourth Presbyterian Church on Chicago’s Magnificent Mile.

North Central College’s choral ensembles will perform a special concert at the Fourth Presbyterian Church at 126 E. Chestnut St. and North Michigan Avenue at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 10. The event is free, but a free-will offering will be taken.

Students travel during spring break to serve, build, perform, compete

North Central College students use their spring break to travel nationwide to serve others, build homes, help communities, sing and train for spring sports.

While some students may relax on a sunny beach during North Central College’s spring break, many will embark on service trips across the nation. Nearly 60 students will build homes, serve food at a homeless shelter and serve communities in Detroit, New York City, West Virginia and other locations. Some 48 Concert Choir members will perform in venues in Iowa, Wisconsin and Illinois. Six athletic teams also head to warmer climates for competition.

North Central College and DuPage Symphony Orchestra cosponsor two “Broadway Spectacular” concerts March 15-16 with featured artists.

North Central College’s fine arts department and the DuPage Symphony Orchestra are cosponsoring two “Broadway Spectacular” concerts March 15-16 in Wentz Concert Hall, featuring vocal performances and music from Broadway classics.  

The featured vocalist is internationally renowned soprano Lisa Vroman. One of America’s most versatile voices—from Broadway to classics, on stage and in concert—she also will perform two songs with North Central’s Fine Arts Director Brian Lynch.

The 2014 “Explore the Sound” theme is Of Spirits and Places

North Central College hosts the sixth annual “Explore the Sound” concert series on Feb. 20 and 21 with some 130 choral and instrumental musicians.

North Central College hosts the sixth annual “Explore the Sound” concert series with performances at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday, Feb. 20 and 21, in the College’s Wentz Concert Hall.

The concert features some 130 choral and instrumental musicians in a seamlessly staged, theatrically lit performance from every part of Wentz Concert Hall. The performers include the Concert Choir, Women’s Chorale, Chamber Singers, Woodwind Quintet and Chamber String Ensemble with piano, string and jazz solos or small groups.
