North Central College, Chicago Blackhawks, LifeSource cosponsor blood drive March 23

North Central College, the Chicago Blackhawks and LifeSource are teaming up to cosponsor a blood drive March 23 at the College.

Chicago Blackhawks players to be announced later and Tommy Hawk, the Blackhawks’ mascot, are scheduled to be on hand when the College’s Pre-Health Organization (PHO) hosts the event as part of the LifeSource Spring Blood Drive and Marrow Registry from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 23, in the College’s Residence Hall/Recreation Center, 440 S. Brainard St.

Alex had plans to become a lawyer to help underserved communities in developing countries. But a study abroad trip to Ecuador, where she observed the state of healthcare, changed her plans.

“I realized I wanted a career that gave me direct contact meeting the needs of the underserved. I switched to nursing to focus on patient care and form personal connections.”

When Alex returned to campus, she connected with the College’s pre-professional health program coordinator and learned about North Central’s affiliation with Rush University’s Generalist Entry Master’s program in nursing.

“I had to start from scratch midway through college to begin my required science classes. The professors were encouraging in helping me catch up, and they’re always available,” she says. “The sciences here are as challenging - if not more so - as they would be at professional schools. If you can succeed at North Central, you can do anything.”

Survey finds North Central College graduates among highest income-earners

Graduates of North Central College earn more income over their lifetimes than peers who graduate from most comparable schools, a new survey finds.

North Central College ranks among the top 15 percent of private, nonprofit schools in the 2011-2012 survey by Payscale.com. The mid-career median salary for North Central College graduates is $81,300, ranking No. 39 out of 303 schools in the private, nonprofit category.

U.S. News & World Report ranks North Central College among America’s Best Colleges

U.S. News & World Report magazine ranks North Central College among America’s Best Colleges for 2013.

North Central College is ranked No. 13 in the Midwest in the Regional Universities category—schools that offer a full range of undergraduate and master’s degrees. North Central College was ranked No. 23 among Midwest Regional Universities for 2012.
