North Central College announces site selection for new science center

The North Central College Board of Trustees has selected a location for a new science center.

During its annual fall meeting the North Central College Board of Trustees selected a location for a new science center that will create exciting new educational opportunities for students and transform the campus.

After careful consideration the Board has determined that the new science center will be located south of Van Buren Avenue between Loomis and Brainard streets, within the boundaries of the College and University District designated by the City of Naperville.

Total enrollment stands at 3,048 undergraduate and graduate students, eclipsing the 3,000 mark for the second straight year. The College welcomed 852 new full-time undergraduate students. Enrollment this fall includes a record number of international students and increased representation of out-of-state students and veterans.

Erin never feels like she’s on her own at North Central.

“My advisors help me set up my classes and make sure I’m on the right track. The pre-health advisor makes sure those classes match with the classes radiation programs wants and gives me tips on ways to make my application better,” Erin says. “There are so many people at North Central who go out of their way to help me.”

Like all radiation therapy majors at North Central, Erin will spend her fourth year interning at the School of Radiation Therapy at Chicago’s Northwestern Memorial Hospital. She would like to work internationally as a radiation therapist after graduating.

“It takes a lot of work to get through this program. The key is to be proactive and seek out help,” she says. “Apply all the advice you’re given.”

North Central College students will discuss their scholarly work Aug. 1 during the poster session of the 2013 Summer Undergraduate Research Colloquium (SURC).

The SURC poster session takes place from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 1 in Smith Hall of Old Main, 30 N. Brainard St. (The session previously was scheduled to take place in Heininger Auditorium at the Larrance Academic Center). Most of the 40 students who participated in the 2013 SURC will be present.

Medical mission inspires North Central pre-health majors

Four North Central College pre-health majors journey to Honduras for a medical mission.

Morgan Wichman ’14 always wanted to travel to Honduras with an optometrist from her hometown of Freeport, IL, for a medical mission. She decided this was the year to take a week in February for the mission—if she could find friends to travel with. It didn’t take long for three North Central friends to say “I’m in” and make plans for the World Gospel Outreach-sponsored trip.
