North Central faculty and staff are invited to attend the Illinois American Association of University Professors (AAUP) Spring Conference, hosted by the College on Saturday, April 26, in Smith Hall.

Twice each year, the Illinois AAUP sponsors an educational conference at a school with an active AAUP membership. North Central’s AAUP chapter is host for the 2014 spring conference, which will focus on the theme “The Role of Women in Higher Education.”

Registration is underway for a variety of undergraduate and graduate-level courses that often can be applied toward graduation requirements at a student’s home institution. Class sessions are offered in four- and eight-week terms, starting June 16. The second four-week term starts July 14.

The talents of North Central College students again garnered national recognition with a first-place award for a new student-run website, ncclinked.com. The College Media Association held a convention and awards ceremony March 15 in New York City and North Central’s Chronicle staff competed among schools of all sizes in the online award category. In its first time competing there, The Chronicle came away with a David L.

Stanley is named Outstanding Coach Educator in statewide student vote

John Stanley, North Central College assistant professor of speech communication, recently received the Dennis-Ross Award for Outstanding Coach Educator.

John Stanley—North Central College assistant professor of speech communication, assistant director of forensics and director of individual events—was honored recently with the Dennis-Ross Award for Outstanding Coach Educator.

The annual award was presented at the State of Illinois Championship Tournament for both speech and debate, held Feb. 28-March 1. The Dennis-Ross Award is administered by the Illinois Intercollegiate Forensics Association (IIFA), which hosts the tournament.

Students in Group Process class showcase fundraising efforts March 11

Students in North Central College’s Group Process (SPC 214) class, taught by Hillary Shulman, assistant professor of speech communication, will give group presentations March 11 about their fundraising efforts for local charities.

The groups will present at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 11, in Madden Theatre. The campus community is invited to attend this free event, and students from the class have invited contacts from the local organizations and charities to attend, too. A dessert reception will follow the presentations.

Forensics showcase presents student talent, also a fundraiser

North Central College’s forensics team will showcase this year’s top student performers and presentations at 7 p.m. Friday, March, 7 in Pfeiffer Hall.

Open to the campus community, this event also is a fundraising opportunity to benefit the College’s nationally recognized forensics team. Admission is $5/person with proceeds going to help offset the program’s expenses during the competitive season.

North Central College AMA team scores school’s first top 10 placement at annual competition

North Central College’s American Marketing Association (AMA) team has achieved its first top 10 placement in an annual international competition.

North Central College’s American Marketing Association (AMA) team has achieved a top 10 placement in an annual international competition for the first time in school history.

The team placed in the top 10 of the 2013-2014 AMA Collegiate Case Competition sponsored by the Hershey Company, the AMA announced Jan. 21. Eighty-six schools entered this year’s competition for the opportunity to present at the AMA’s annual collegiate conference in New Orleans in April.
