Some 700 student-athletes, coaches and faculty mentors met in the Res/Center Center Sept. 12 for North Central’s annual celebration, The Huddle, to kick off the new year. President Hal Wilde and Director of Athletics Jim Miller were the first to speak and reflected on last year’s successes and how to balance athletic and academic success. After the traditional NC Influence T-shirts were distributed and coaches and faculty mentors were introduced, guest speaker Sue Enquist addressed the enthusiastic crowd.

Lauren Kazmierczak

A lifelong Chicago Bears fan, Lauren gained enough experience at North Central to land an internship at the Bears summer training camp. As an advertising and special events intern, she organized the public activities surrounding the launch of the NFL season. “It was especially crazy with new quarterback, Jay Cutler,” she says. “We had 6,000 to 7,000 people in the stands every day.”

Lauren also developed sports leadership skills on campus. “I worked in the athletics office and organized game-day activities on campus,” she says. “I also played basketball for two and a half years.”

Lauren plans to pursue a career in sport management, but she’s open to a range of possibilities. “I want to work either in college sports or in professional sports—we’ll see what happens.”
