North Central College student wins technical theatre mentorship

Theatre major Katherine Fecht was selected for a mentoring opportunity with a United States Institute for Theatre Technology Fellow.

When North Central College sophomore Katherine Fecht signed up for a recent United States Institute for Theatre Technology (USITT) Conference in Milwaukee, she was expecting to take in professional workshops and exhibits to prepare for a career behind the scenes in theatre.

Those expectations were exceeded when she went home with a two-day, all-expenses-paid mentoring session with a USITT Fellow.

Gregory H. Wolf, North Central College professor of German and Dennis and Jean Bauman Professor of the Humanities, and German major Louis Waldmeir ’13 co-published two essays in the journal “Communications from the International Brecht Society.”

John Malone was promoted to associate professor at Lincoln College in Lincoln, IL. He has been at Lincoln College since 2004 and teaches radio broadcasting, mass communication and speech.

North Central forensics places third in state, sets record for national qualifiers

North Central College students win 12 awards at state championship forensic tournament, set program record for national contest by qualifying in 29 events.

Eighteen North Central College students were among some 200 forensic competitors in speech and debate at the Illinois Intercollegiate Forensics Association State Tournament (IIFA), hosted by Northern Illinois University March 1-2.

North Central College brought home 12 awards. Among them were two Sweepstakes Awards: The College won Third Place Team award in the State of Illinois, and David DePino ’13, majoring in speech communication and history, claimed Third Place Overall Individual Student in Illinois award.

Marcos Mateo Ochoa has guest starred in several television shows, including Spike TV’s “The Joe Schmo Show,” Comedy Central’s “Kroll Show” and “Nathan For You.” In late 2012, he and his partner Frank Cermak Jr. costarred opposite each other in a feature film with Academy Award nominee Karen Black (“Easy Rider”), Steve Railsback (“Helter Skelter”) and Daveigh Chase (“The Ring”). Senior’s research chosen for conference presentation, wins award

Project by North Central College psychology major Kristen Soforic ’13 is accepted for presentation at regional conference, wins research award.

Kristen Soforic ’13, a psychology major at North Central College, was recently recognized for her academic work. Her research project, titled “The Effect of Induced Hypocrisy on Texting While Driving,” was accepted for presentation at the 2013 Midwestern Psychological Association (MPA) conference in May in Chicago. She co-authored the project with North Central 2012 graduate Nicholas Petkunas, also a psychology major.
