Campus Coffee to feature Japan-North Central connection

Special Feb. 21 Campus Coffee to showcase North Central’s rich history and longtime connections with Japan, including authentic food, attire.

The College will host a special Campus Coffee on Feb. 21 that will focus on the rich history and longtime connections between Japan and North Central College.

Faculty and staff who attend the Campus Coffee on Tuesday, Feb. 21, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. in Smith Hall, will enjoy authentic Japanese cuisine, interaction with students from Japan and those learning Japanese, and learning about the College’s connection with Japan.

Reconnect with the new alumni online directory

The Office of Alumni Relations has added a new online directory for the use of all College alumni.

The Office of Alumni Relations has added a new online directory for the use of all College alumni. Users can access information about their classmates and others who shared similar interests and activities. The directory encourages alumni to reconnect and communicate.

“The directory also allows users to easily update their contact information and submit classnotes,” says Adrian Aldrich ’02, director of alumni relations.

North Central College presents “In the Absence of Color,” an exhibit of silver-based black and white photography by alumnus Jon Balke Nov. 20-Jan. 5.

Silver-based black and white photographs by artist and North Central College alumnus Jon W. Balke will be on display Nov. 20 through Jan. 5 in an exhibit titled “In the Absence of Color.”

The exhibit is free and open to the public in the College’s Oesterle Library Gallery, 320 E. School St., Naperville. An artist reception will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8, where guests can meet Balke and discuss his work. Complimentary refreshments will be served.

Josh Stumpenhorst ’03 gets to go to NASA Space Camp in Huntsville, Ala. He’ll also get to meet President Obama and the first lady at a White House dinner in the spring. He may even be invited to throw out the first pitch at a Cubs game.

Those are some of the perks that come with being named the Illinois Teacher of the Year for 2011-2012. The Illinois State Board of Education announced the award Oct. 22 during the Those Who Excel banquet in Normal.

Creating Connections, Leaving a Legacy

A group of North Central students would like to thank the alumni who donate to fine arts, athletics, the Annual Fund and campus facilities.

So they are. Using pens, thank you notes and their own creativity, the Student Legacy Ambassadors have written more than 200 personal notes to College donors. They tell them about the activities they're involved with and how the donor helped their field of interest.

Former career back on the 'front burner'

A life of academic curiosity that was nurtured at North Central College continues for Charlotte Roederer '65. A math and music major as an undergraduate, Roederer has shifted from a law career back to research she started more than 30 years ago after earning a doctorate in music history from Yale University. "I have the opportunity to 'front burner' the research I started as an academic and kept warm all these years," she says.

In cross country, all seven runners finished in the top 25 at regionals, securing the team’s third straight NCAA Division III Midwest Regional title at the Saukie Golf Course and participation in the National Championships in Waverly, Iowa. The squad aims to claim its second straight national title and 14th overall.
