Former Cardinal basketball player Tony Thompson ’90 of Nashville, TN, knows a thing or two about college basketball and he’s using his experiences to influence the lives of hundreds of young players.

Board names Life Trustee and new Trustee

The College’s Board of Trustees in May voted to recognize, John D. Bramsen ’60, as a Life Trustee after 19 years of service to the board. Bramsen majored in mathematics at North Central and then pursued his master’s degree in mathematics at the University of Illinois. During his doctoral studies at the University of Chicago, he studied the application of math to sociological theory, which inspired his research as an assistant professor of sociology at the University of Colorado. He later returned to Chicago to work at Spraying Systems Company, a business founded by his father.

Alumnus is at leading edge of design technology

Robert “Buzz” Kross ’87 helps lead a company with an understated name—Autodesk—but the $1.7 billion software firm is a major player and worldwide leader in 2D and 3D design, which supports everything from the design of BMWs and Apple iPads to digital movie effects.

Reverend Dr. Tallulah Fisher '74 Williams Added to Wall of Witness

The late Reverend Dr. Tallulah Fisher ’74 Williams became the third name added to the Wall of Witness in Kiekhofer Hall, which honors graduates of North Central College and/or Evangelical Theological Seminary for their lives of witness to their faith and service to humanity.

“Thank you, sister, for being such a dynamic role model,” said Renetta M. Butler ’84, (right), who accepted the award at Homecoming on behalf of her sister Tallulah. “Thank you for not holding your light under a bushel. You continue to influence me and women of all colors.”

Beth Thomas '63 Zimmermann Recognized with Outstanding Alumni Award

Beth Thomas ’63 Zimmermann was honored with an Outstanding Alumni Award for her distinguished nursing career and service to North Central College as a dedicated member of the Board of Trustees and alumni board.

“As a student, I grew to love NCC and appreciate this family,” said Zimmermann, mentioning the impact of people like the Reverend George St. Angelo ’43. “The professors and staff were dedicated to the profession of teaching and learning.”

Ordained UMC Minister Discovers 'Tough' Retirement Duty

 

The Reverend Roger Stressman '44 has found one of the best retirement activities available to an ordained minister. Since 2006, he has been active in the chaplaincy program for Holland America Line ships, cruising the world in exchange for conducting Protestant worship services on Sundays and sea days, caring for families who experience illness or death, and assisting the captain with ship weddings.
He lists Australia, New Zealand, Greece, Turkey, Palestine, Italy and Norway among the countries he’s visited while “working.”

New career casts colorful future for alumnus

The career of Scott Haebich '78 has taken many twists and turns, including his most recent endeavor in co-owning and operating a glassblowing studio. For the past two years, Haebich has been working in a studio near Grand Rapids, MI, where he shapes his signature flowers, jewel-tone pumpkins and free-form bowls.

June 7, 2010—John Bramsen, a longtime member of the North Central College Board of Trustees, has been named a Life Trustee of the College.

Bramsen, of Chicago, has been a trustee of North Central College for 19 years. He has been a longtime member of the executive and liaison committees and has served as both chair and member of the academic affairs committee.
