Koenig published in new collection of essays

Wendy Koenig, North Central College associate professor of art history, was published in the recent collection of essays, “The Transcultural Turn.”

Wendy Koenig, North Central College associate professor of art history, recently had an article published in a book titled “The Transcultural Turn.”

Koenig’s article, titled “Motion and Sound: Investigating the Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center,” evolved out of her 2010 presentation at an international conference on Transcultural Memory at the University of London.

Works by talented artists of The Awakenings Project will be showcased at North Central College April 25-June 22 as part of Mental Health Awareness Month.

North Central College will showcase works by members of The Awakenings Project April 25-June 22.

Begun in 1997, The Awakenings Project is a group of talented artists in DuPage County and surrounding areas, all of whom have a psychiatric illness. Shown art represents the broad range of work these artists create, from casual paintings, sculptures and photographs by amateurs to seasoned works by professional artists.

North Central College will showcase works by artist Lindsay Olson in the exhibit “Tools of the Trade: A Resident’s View of Law Enforcement” March 7 through April 20.

The exhibit is free and open to the public in the College’s Schoenherr Gallery at the Fine Arts Center, 171 E. Chicago Ave., Naperville. An artist reception will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 7; complimentary refreshments will be served.

Wendy Koenig, North Central College associate professor of art, presented a paper, titled “New Approaches to Oral Testimony,” as part of the panel The Practice and Politics of Commemoration at the 11th Biennial International Holocaust Studies Conference at Middle Tennessee State University on Oct. 17. Her research into the use of audio and video testimony in Holocaust museums is an outgrowth of earlier work on acoustic design and the use of sound in Holocaust and other atrocity museum exhibits.
