North Central College students showcase talent in Senior Art Show

The 2013 Senior Art Show features the diverse body of work by North Central College art seniors, May 10-June 10, in two gallery locations.

Artwork by 10 North Central College art students is featured in the annual Senior Art Show, May 10 through June 10. The 2013 Senior Art Show features the diverse body of work created by North Central College art students, who will be graduating with a bachelor’s degree in studio art or art education.

Sculptures by George Lorio featured in Schoenherr Gallery

North Central College will showcase sculptures by artist George Lorio in the Schoenherr Gallery exhibit “Concerns” May 31 through July 28.

North Central College will showcase sculptures by artist George Lorio in the exhibit “Concerns” May 31 through July 28.

The exhibit is free and open to the public in the College’s Schoenherr Gallery at the Fine Arts Center, 171 E. Chicago Ave., Naperville. An artist reception will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 31; complimentary refreshments will be served.

Rabenold’s artwork displayed in studio at national conference

Christine Rabenold, North Central College assistant professor of art, displayed her ceramic artwork in “Redefined,” an exhibit at a national arts conference.

Christine Rabenold, North Central College assistant professor of art and student art gallery director, displayed four ceramic pieces in an exhibition titled “Redefined” at Spring Street Studios in Houston. Her artwork was part of the Concurrent Independent Exhibitions at the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts (NCECA) conference held March 20-23.

Two students are featured artists in March 13-April 4 exhibit

Artwork of two North Central College students is featured in a spring exhibit titled “Altered Words.”  

“Altered Words” includes paintings, ink drawings, ceramics and mixed media artwork created by senior Kate Pauley and junior Ariel Hodge. The free exhibit runs March 13 through April 4 in the College’s Oesterle Library Gallery, 320 E. School St. An artist reception will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, March 28; complimentary refreshments will be served.

Giuseppe Pellicano chosen outstanding major in art

Giuseppe Pellicano of Naperville was awarded the 2012 Outstanding Major in Art Award at North Central College.

Giuseppe Pellicano of Naperville was awarded the 2012 Outstanding Major in Art Award during Honors Day May 15 at North Central College. He was also inducted to SALUTE, the Veteran’s National Honor Society.

Pellicano is a senior majoring in studio art at North Central College and has been accepted to a graduate program in art at Northern Illinois University where he will work toward a master’s degree in fine arts.

Koenig is guest lecturer in Oregon

Wendy Koenig, North Central College associate professor of art, was a guest classroom lecturer and presenter at Pacific University.

Wendy Koenig, North Central College associate professor of art, was guest lecturer at Pacific University in Forest Grove, Ore., on April 23. She delivered two classroom lectures, one on Dada and a second on the use of the artist’s body in 20th century art. Koenig also gave a public presentation on her current research into acoustic design at Holocaust museums in the United States.

Koenig has been teaching at North Central since 2008. She earned a B.A. from the University of Louisville, an M.F.A. from Ohio University and a Ph.D. from The Ohio State University.

Senior Art Show showcases artwork by 11 seniors

Paintings, drawings, ceramics, sculpture by North Central College students are featured in the 2012 Senior Art Show, May 10-June 12, in two gallery locations.

Artwork by 11 North Central College students is featured in the annual Senior Art Show.

The exhibit is free, open to the public and on display May 10 through June 12 in two locations at the College’s Meiley-Swallow Hall Gallery, 31 S. Ellsworth St., and the Oesterle Library Gallery, 320 E. School St. The senior artists will greet visitors during a reception from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, May 20, in both galleries; complimentary refreshments will be served.

The exhibition will feature paintings, drawings, ceramics and sculpture. Exhibitors are:

North Central College alumnus Josh Stumpenhorst named Illinois Teacher of the Year

Josh Stumpenhorst '03 Teacher of the Year
The Illinois State Board of Education has named North Central alumnus Josh Stumpenhorst recipient of the 2011-2012 Illinois Teacher of the Year Award.

Oct. 24, 2011—North Central College alumnus Josh Stumpenhorst is the 2011-2012 Illinois Teacher of the Year.

Stumpenhorst earned his undergraduate degree in social science and secondary education at North Central College. He teaches language arts and social science to sixth-graders at Lincoln Junior High School in Naperville Community Unit School District 203. He credits his experience at North Central for helping him achieve success as an educator.
