North Central's first Margaret Youel Award recipient is Danara Barlow ’15

Danara Barlow is recognized for her perseverance, tenacity, spirit; named first recipient of the Margaret Youel Award during the 2015 Honors Convocation.

Danara Barlow ’15 was named the first recipient of the Margaret Youel Award during Honors Day in May at North Central College. A transfer student and resident of Wheaton, Danara majored in psychology.

This award was established at last year’s Commencement in honor of Margaret “Maggie” Youel who suffered a stroke, requiring a lengthy hospital stay and extensive therapy during her sophomore year at North Central. The award honors her perseverance, tenacity and spirit.

As copresidents of the Black Student Association (BSA), North Central College Carmen Brodnax ’14 and Cera Rodriguez ’15 hope to engage the campus community in special activities during Black History Month and inspire students of all backgrounds to participate in BSA throughout the year.
