Emily Jewison '13

Emily Jewison landed a backstage role at the Goodman Theatre in Chicago with “The Jungle Book,” a world premier musical based on Disney’s animated movie. She started as a stage management intern and was hired as a young performer supervisor when the show began previews in June. Coincidentally, the other young performer supervisor was fellow alum Kate Cora Clark ’08. The pair helped Mowgli and Little Girl into their costumes, supervised them during the show and met their parents at the end of the evening.

Quinton Hoffert '13

Quinton Hoffert was awarded a U.S. State Department Critical Languages Scholarship, which funded a special intensive language program at Suzhou University in Jiangsu, China. He will continue a two-year study of Chinese at Beijing Foreign Studies University this fall and return to the United States to complete a master’s degree in a Chinese translation program.

Danielle Fiala '13

Danielle Fiala was named the inaugural head lacrosse coach at Wartburg College, which begins competition in women’s lacrosse in the spring 2015 season. “I immediately became interested due to the Division III atmosphere,” she said. “Being a student first and an athlete second is something I enjoyed and am very comfortable with due to my time at North Central.” Fiala led North Central in scoring during her last three lacrosse seasons and is the program’s all-time career leader in goals, assists, shot attempts and ground controls.

Hannah Brock and Kevin Murphy started hiking across the Appalachian Mountains from Maine on June 12. Brock is a Jackson, GA, native and Murphy lives in Glen Ellyn, IL. A daily journal of Brock’s excursion on the Appalachian Trail is posted at trailjournals.com/hannahbrock.

Kitt Vanderwater was selected to join British Airways’ UnGrounded “Hack at 30,000 feet” in June by the National Center for Women & Information Technology (NCWIT) through its Aspirations in Computing talent development initiative.

Mackenzie Tarr is an office manager for an optometry practice and is applying for optometry school.

Katherine Sparks '12

Katherine Sparks is pursuing a master’s degree in statistics at Loyola University in Chicago.

Alexis Smith '12

Alexis Smith was selected as one of 18 Distinguished Graduate Student Fellows at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM). She has been conducting research in Louisville, KY, as a Master’s Thesis Fellow at the Filson Historical Society. Smith intends to graduate in May 2014 and pursue a doctorate.

Giuseppe Pellicano '12

Giuseppe Pellicano will publish his boot project titled “Left, Left, Left, Right, Left” (funded with a Richter Independent Study Fellowship grant while a student) in volume III of The Journal of Military Experience in September. The journal is a collection of short stories, poems and artwork created entirely by student veterans from across the armed services. Stories are from wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, the Gulf and Bosnia and from other military events.

Rachel Mortell '12

Rachel Mortell earned her certified nurse assistant certification and is working in the medical field in order to accumulate enough hours of experience to apply for physician assistant programs.
