The Online College Database’s new ranking, “Top Colleges in Illinois Shaping the Next Generation,” honors the post-secondary institutions in the state that graduated the most education and teaching professionals during the 2012 school year.

Norval Bard, North Central College professor of French, and Gregory Wolf, professor of German, gave presentations at a conference focusing on pedagogy in the foreign language classroom. The conference was the annual meeting of the Illinois Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ICTFL), which took place in Tinley Park Oct. 17-19.

Three education faculty selected to help with new teacher assessment process

Three members of North Central College’s education faculty have been selected by Pearson Education, Inc. to be trained as scorers for the edTPA, the new state-mandated, pre-service Teacher Performance Assessment (edTPA).

Outstanding faculty and staff are recognized at Service Awards

North Central College recognized faculty and administrative staff for their outstanding teaching, scholarship and service in 2013 with endowed Dissinger awards.

Five outstanding North Central College faculty and staff for the 2012-2013 academic year were recognized May 29 at the annual Service Awards presentation.

Each year the College recognizes faculty and administrative staff members for their outstanding teaching, scholarship and service “above and beyond the call of duty.” Award recipients are presented with endowed awards established in memory of two North Central College alumni—Clarence F. Dissinger, Class of 1921, and his sister Ruth C. Dissinger Althaus, Class of 1922.

North Central’s math program wins grant for high school enrichment program

North Central College’s mathematics department secured Dolciani Mathematics Enrichment Grant to aid high-achieving high school math students.

North Central College’s department of mathematics recently secured a competitive Dolciani Mathematics Enrichment Grant (DMEG) from the Mathematical Association of America. The grant will be used to develop E2 (Expository Engagement): North Central Math Circle, an after-school math enrichment program for area high school students.

“It’s really exciting to be able to engage young, math-minded students at North Central,” said Neil Nicholson, North Central College assistant professor of mathematics and project director of E2.

North Central College’s Tyson Education Curriculum Resource Center to benefit from funds raised at Metea Valley High School 5K run/walk on June 1.

North Central College’s Dr. Lora L. Tyson Education Curriculum Resource Center will benefit from proceeds of a local 5K run/walk this June. The 5K event will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 1, and feature professional distance runner Adam Goucher, along with students, staff and families of Metea Valley High School in Aurora, Ill.

Faculty/student panel discussion and screening of “Race to Nowhere: The Dark Side of America’s Achievement Culture” is set for Oct. 4.

North Central College will present the documentary, “Race to Nowhere: The Dark Side of America’s Achievement Culture,” at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, in the theatre at Meiley-Swallow Hall. A faculty and student discussion, with audience participation, will follow the free event.
