Future educators consider ethical dilemmas, moral courage Feb. 19

The discussion will take place at 12:15 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, in the second floor Gramarosso Gallery at the Res/Rec Center. All students are invited, especially those interested in education.

North Central’s academic departments, campus offices host documentary Oct. 4

Faculty/student panel discussion and screening of “Race to Nowhere: The Dark Side of America’s Achievement Culture” is set for Oct. 4.

North Central College will present the documentary, “Race to Nowhere: The Dark Side of America’s Achievement Culture,” at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, in the theatre at Meiley-Swallow Hall. A faculty and student discussion, with audience participation, will follow the free event.

Carballo promotes Teach First program at school, conference

Julie Carballo, North Central College adjunct instructor of education and director of Teach First, gave a talk about the Teach First program to the Future Educators Association at West Aurora High School on April 17. She has also given presentations to the National Honor Society and Future Educators of America groups at East Aurora High School.

Education class uses Skype to connect with noted speaker

Students in the Teaching Children with Special Needs in the General Education Classroom hear lecture, ask questions of guest speaker Brian King via Skype.

Some 24 students enrolled in North Central College’s EDN 330 course Teaching Children with Special Needs in the General Education Classroom, taught by Adjunct Instructor of Education Julie Carballo, heard from and exchanged questions with guest lecturer Brian King via the Internet using Skype on May 20.

Carballo says she met King in March when he gave a presentation on sensory processing disorders and was eager to have him speak to her students. King discussed “Five Things Every Teacher Should Know About Effectively Supporting Children on the Spectrum.”
