North Central College - Naperville, IL

North Central was well represented at this year’s National Conference for Undergraduate Research.

The most ever student-researchers from North Central College—32—were accepted to attend the National Conference for Undergraduate Research in April. "This is impressive because we’ve never had this many students apply and it really reflects a changing culture here, a true culture of inquiry,” says Perry Hamalis, director of the Office of Academic Opportunities and assistant professor of religious studies.

Students Leverage Research for Grad School

Kyle Olson '10 knows exactly why he was accepted into a top-rated analytical chemistry doctorate program at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. “The summer research I did was really key,” he says. “To get in to one of the best programs, you need those opportunities.”

Recreation Energizes Campus

While 25 percent of North Central students are involved in intercollegiate athletics, many more are taking advantage of new intramural activities on campus. Students are turning out in big numbers for sports leagues, one-day tournaments, fitness classes and open gym courts for pick-up games.

Expanded intramural, recreational and fitness sports programs are now possible thanks to a new full-time coordinator and completion of the Res/Rec Center.

President's Message

Watching throngs of students walk up the hill from Merner Field House and the Res/Rec Center every morning, juggling two or three on-campus events nearly every evening, I had a number of “aha” moments this April. Something was different from the 19 previous springs that Benna and I have been privileged to live on North Central’s campus. Certainly the more than 250 students living in the Res/Rec Center is a part of it. They’ve changed the foot traffic pattern of the campus.
