Walker is a graduating senior majoring in physical education at North Central College. She is a graduate of Bartlett High School.

North Central College students studying physical and health education present to K-12 educators at DuPage Regional Office of Education County Institute Day.

Six North Central College students studying physical and health education were invited to present at the DuPage Regional Office of Education County Institute Day held at Naperville North High School on March 1. The students presented to K-12 educators as part of the Physical Education, Health Education and Driver Education DuPage County Institute sessions.

North Central College alumnus Eric Ilich ’04 has been named football coach at Hoffman Estates High School, the Daily Herald reports.

Ilich, who majored in physical education K-12 at North Central, has been an assistant football coach at Bartlett High School. Prior to being the North Central Cardinals' quarterback in 2004, he was quarterback for the first two years of Naperville’s Neuqua Valley High School in 1998-1999.

The Illinois State Board of Education has named North Central alumnus Josh Stumpenhorst recipient of the 2011-2012 Illinois Teacher of the Year Award.

Oct. 24, 2011—North Central College alumnus Josh Stumpenhorst is the 2011-2012 Illinois Teacher of the Year.

Stumpenhorst earned his undergraduate degree in social science and secondary education at North Central College. He teaches language arts and social science to sixth-graders at Lincoln Junior High School in Naperville Community Unit School District 203. He credits his experience at North Central for helping him achieve success as an educator.

Gems gives lecture in Cuba

Gerald Gems, professor of health and physical education, gave talk on sport, ethnicity, assimilation theory at the World Congress of the Sociology of Sports.

Gerald Gems, professor of health and physical education, presented a lecture titled “Sport, Ethnicity, and Assimilation Theory: The Case of Italian Americans” at the weeklong World Congress of the Sociology of Sports in Havana, Cuba, on July 13. He was also interviewed by the Cuban press for an article to be published in all Cuban papers.

Mark Vander Kooi '95

Mark Vander Kooi was named the Chicago Bears High School Coach of the Week for week five 2010. Vander Kooi is in his second season as head coach of the Lincoln-Way West High School football program in New Lenox, IL. As part of the honor, the Bears are donating $1,500 to Lincoln-Way West’s program, and Vander Kooi will be invited to the Bears-Patriots game on December 12 where he’ll be recognized during an on-field ceremony.
