John Madormo, North Central College assistant professor of broadcast communication and general manager of WONC-FM 89.1, has authored a young-readers novel that was released nationwide through publisher Penguin Books for Young Readers on May 10.

Television broadcast students are getting a taste of reality this term in the new Advanced Video (SPC 417) class with live TV. Every Thursday for the second half of the term, students have tested their skills and managed their nerves as they present “NCC Weekly” live and on-air at 3 p.m. on Naperville Community Television (NCTV), Channel 17.

Faculty selected Steve Oliveri as the 2010 Lincoln Laureate, an annual award that honors the College’s top senior for excellence in curricular and co-curricular activities. Gov. Pat Quinn will recognize Oliveri in Springfield Nov. 6 with a medallion, certificate and check for $250. Oliveri is majoring in convergent interactive media with a minor in broadcast communication. John Madormo wins Best Family Screenplay Synopsis

John Madormo, assistant professor of broadcast communication and general manager of WONC-FM 89.1, won first place for Best Family Screenplay Synopsis at the 2010 Reno Film Festival Synopsis Contest. His winning script is titled “Dream Machine.” The story: A dream research specialist, in an effort to help his patients suffering from recurring nightmares, has created a remarkable device—a machine that can transport them, mind and body, back into their dreams—to relive those nocturnal delights, or into those nightmares, to confront their demons.
