The May 17 inauguration of Troy D. Hammond as North Central College’s 10th president takes place during Cornerstone Week, May 13-19, an annual celebration that commemorates the College’s 1870 move to Naperville from Plainfield and the laying of the cornerstone for Old Main.

The inauguration is also part of a week that includes the Last Lecture, honors ceremonies, research presentations, panel discussions, concerts, fireworks display, service project and more. Some events will be webcast live.

North Central College head men’s cross country coach and associate head track and field coach Al Carius has been selected for induction into the Chicagoland Sports Hall of Fame.

Carius was selected on the strength of his many accomplishments as an athlete, which include five individual Big Ten Conference championships at the University of Illinois, as well as the numerous accolades achieved in a 48-year coaching career at North Central. Read more

North Central College will recognize Earth Day, held worldwide every year on April 22 and involving more than 1 billion people, with a series of activities Monday through Saturday, April 22-26. Activities include educational discussions, documentary screening, tree planting and service project.

North Central’s Student Governing Association (SGA) is hosting a series of six “fireside chats” to give students the opportunity to meet and interact with President Troy Hammond, who became the College’s 10th president on January 1.  

The six sessions or chats are open to all students but are organized by different campus groups and academic divisions to better accommodate everyone. They are:

The third-ranked North Central men’s basketball team (27-3, with 16-0 at home) will compete in its first-ever national quarterfinal game on Friday, March 22, against Middlebury College (Vt.) in Salem, Va. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. CDT.

The semifinal round will be played on Saturday, March 23, also in Salem. The 2013 NCAA Division III Men’s Basketball Championship game takes place Sunday, April 7, in Atlanta.

North Central College’s third-ranked men’s basketball team (26-3) will compete at home in Gregory Arena Saturday, March 16, in round three of the NCAA Division III Men’s Basketball Championship game against 10th-ranked Illinois Wesleyan University (23-5). This is the second straight season the men have advanced in the tournament to the Sweet 16.

The North Central College men’s track and field team claimed the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Indoor Championship for the 13th consecutive year Feb. 23. The fourth-ranked Cardinals won six of the 17 events and totaled 250 points, while 11th-ranked Augustana College was a distant second. North Central has won the CCIW indoor championship every year since its inception in 2001.

Rec Sports will host its second annual Student vs. Staff Basketball Game Feb. 20 and the campus community is invited to join the fun and cheer on your team. Admission is free.

Final rosters of the nominated players are in place and the student vs. faculty and staff teams are ready to play at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, in Gregory Arena at Merner Field House.
