Join the Oct. 2 celebration: Naperville Backs the Bid

The City of Naperville is poised to celebrate when the International Olympic Committee announces the host city for the 2016 Summer Olympics on Oct. 2 around noon. A street festival celebrating Naperville’s community spirit will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 2, along Chicago Avenue between Main and Washington Streets. The campus community is encouraged to take part in the celebration as well. Students are encouraged to gather on campus in The Cage or Geiger Hall lounge around the TV monitors to see and hear the news broadcast starting at 11:15 a.m.

Cardinal fans can catch the latest sports news and highlights at www.youtube.com/user/northcentralsports, a North Central YouTube page dedicated to two video sports programs, “The Cardinal Report” and “The Red Zone.” You can view recent and past shows by selecting “see all” on the right-hand side under Uploads. “The Cardinal Report” is a weekly show, hosted by NCTV’s Will Armistead ’07/M ’09, that features one sports team each week and interviews its coaches and athletes. “The Red Zone” covers Cardinals games and is hosted by Jeff Mahoney.

In an effort to save some trees and dollars, the athletics department and sports information have teamed up to convert their print media guides to online publications. The 2009 Football Media Guide is the first to go online and can be viewed at www.sidearmdmg.com/ncentral/football. The other fall sports guides will be live soon.

Several WONC-FM 89.1 staff members were named national finalists in three categories by the College Broadcasters Inc. (CBI) National Student Production Awards, an annual competition for college and university radio stations. Winners will be announced Oct. 31 at the National College Media Convention in Austin, Texas.
