North Central College head men’s cross country coach and associate head track and field coach Al Carius has been selected for induction into the Chicagoland Sports Hall of Fame.

Carius was selected on the strength of his many accomplishments as an athlete, which include five individual Big Ten Conference championships at the University of Illinois, as well as the numerous accolades achieved in a 48-year coaching career at North Central. Read more

The men’s and women’s cross country teams—both are 2011 CCIW champions—travel to Winneconne, Wis., for the NCAA Division III National Championships Saturday, Nov. 19. The women start out at 11 a.m. and the men run at noon.

Professional runner Patrick Rizzo ’05 has signed a three-year endorsement deal with Mizuno USA, Inc., a leader in high performance running footwear and apparel. Rizzo ran cross country and track and field for the Cardinals for four years and was a seven-time NCAA Division III All-American and winner of multiple CCIW titles. Recent achievements include a 3rd-place American finish at the 2009 Boston Marathon and a victory at the 2009 Chicago Half Marathon. His best time in the marathon is 2:15.48.

The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) released its 2010 Men’s Indoor Track & Field Midwest Region Award winners March 10 with three of the four award winners from North Central. Al Carius was honored as the Head Coach of the Year, Tim Winder was named Assistant Coach of the Year while pole vaulter Jake Winder ’10 was selected as the Field A
