During the last weekend in October, the forensics team traveled to Lee’s Summit, Mo., near Kansas City, to compete at the Central States Swing Forensics Tournament, which included two different tournaments on Oct. 30-31. North Central’s team took first place both days and six students placed in the finals—“an incredible feat,” says John Stanley, assistant professor of speech communication, assistant director of forensics and director of individual events.

John Stanley—instructor of speech communication, assistant director of forensics and director of individual events—contributed to a textbook published in July by Kendall Hunt. Titled “THE Presentation Guide Book: From the Classroom to the Boardroom,” the book by Crystal Rae Coel Coleman is a how-to resource for giving presentations. Stanley’s contribution, titled “Enjoy Delivering Your Message,” begins on page 65.

North Central’s forensics team took part in the 2010 National Forensic Association (NFA) national tournament April 15-19 at Ohio University and finished in the top 10, at No. 8 in the President’s I Team Sweeps. Some 100 colleges and universities participated in the national championship tournament, which gave awards in 10 individual events and Lincoln-Douglas debate.
