For the past six weeks, 37 students and 15 faculty have participated in the Summer Undergraduate Research Colloquium (SURC) conducting research that spans many majors and topics. Students presented their research to the campus community July 21 in a poster format in Kroehler Science Center. Nancy Peterson, professor of chemistry, noted research can be lonely and slow-going at times, so students and faculty involved in SURC meet weekly to collaborate and discuss their work.

When the Women’s Interaction Network (WIN) held its winter gathering March 3, the agenda included lunch and hearing about recreational sports from Corey Bitzer (photo), coordinator of recreation and wellness programs, and comments from Nancy Peterson, professor of chemistry and recipient of this year’s Cleo Tanner Award for outstanding contributions. Since assuming the new coordinator position in fall 2009, Bitzer has initiated myriad recreational sports for students, faculty and staff, utilizing all athletic facilities.

Professor of Chemistry Nancy Peterson was presented with the Cleo Tanner Award by North Central's athletic department at the annual National Girls and Women in Sports Day Luncheon Feb. 2. Peterson, a member of North Central's faculty since 1994, has been a faculty mentor for the Cardinals’ softball program and currently serves as the faculty mentor for the women’s basketball program.
