Ramona Wis, Mimi Rolland Professor in the Fine Arts, professor and chair of music, was the headliner for the Ohio Collegiate Music Educators Association (OCMEA) Conference in Columbus, OH, on Nov. 6. Wis presented several sessions to undergraduate music education students from Ohio State, Miami University of Ohio, Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, Marietta College and other institutions in the state, covering topics of Music Education Philosophy, Rehearsal Design, Collaborative Teaching Techniques, and Repertoire Choice and Concert Programming.

North Central’s music education program and its student chapter of the National Association for Music Education (MENC) have been recognized by MENC with an award for outstanding growth. In the announcement to the College, MENC’s North Central president remarked, “Your dedication and commitment to the young students studying to be teachers is such a contribution to our profession. Your guidance and knowledge both inspire and mentor these young people.”

Ramona M. Wis, Mimi Rolland Professor in the Fine Arts, professor and chair of music, presented a workshop to an international audience of artistic directors during the Sister Singers Network conference in Chicago in July. Her session was titled “Influence Changes Everything: How Conductors Can Create Momentum and Achieve Success (and still sleep at night).” More recently, Wis facilitated a workshop with the K-12 music educators of Indian Prairie School District 204. Ramona Wis, Mimi Rolland Professor in the Fine Arts and chair of North Central's music department, is presenting her paper “Reframing Leadership” today at Northwestern University as part of the 25th anniversary celebration of the Center for the Study of Education and the Musical Experience (CSEME). CSEME brings together music education faculty, doctoral students and center fellows to examine contemporary issues and foster collaborative research on music teaching and learning.

Ramona Wis, Mimi Rolland Professor in the Fine Arts and professor of music, was the Guest Conductor for the Illinois Music Educators Association District I Festival on Nov. 21 at Lincoln-Way West High School in New Lenox, Ill. Wis worked with more than 300 singers during the day in preparation for a public concert held that afternoon, featuring more than 700 students in the district honors ensembles. In addition, Wis was a guest speaker at Roosevelt University on Nov.

Ramona Wis, Mimi Rolland Professor in the Fine Arts and professor and chair of music, was a featured presenter at the GALA Choruses Conference in Columbus, Ohio, on Sept. 4, presenting all-day, in-depth institutes on leadership to artistic directors and conductors from around the country. On Sept. 2, she also presented an in-service workshop on leadership to District 125 K-12 music educators in Lincolnshire, IL.
