North Central’s department of religious studies invites students, faculty and staff to attend any or all of the series of events this spring focusing on the contemplative dimension of human experience. Short presentations by practitioners from diverse traditions will be followed by contemplative exercises; participation in the exercises is entirely optional.

The following events will take place at 4 p.m. in room 36 at Goldspohn Hall:

Wioleta Polinska, associate professor of religious studies and chair of philosophy and religious studies, participated in the Institute on Infusing South Asian Studies into the Undergraduate Curriculum, July 12-30, at the East-West Center in Honolulu. The institute was directed by Arindam Chakrabarti, professor of philosophy at the University of Hawaii.

Wioleta Polinska, associate professor of religious studies and chair of philosophy and religious studies; Robert Lehe, professor of philosophy; and Matthew Rogers ’10, who majored in Japanese and philosophy, presented papers at the Asian Studies Development Program 16th Annual National Conference in Honolulu, Hawaii, on July 2. Polinska’s paper was titled “Till Death Do Us Part?: Buddhist-Christian Discourse on Marriage”; Lehe’s paper was titled “The Problem of Evil in Christianity and Buddhism”; and Rogers’ paper was titled “Buddhist Interdependence as an Exp
