The magazine profiles the top 650 of the nearly 2,500 four-year institutions of higher learning in the United States. Forbes ranks North Central College No. 490 overall, No. 333 among private colleges and No. 117 in the Midwest.

Jillian Laumbacher, daughter of Edgar and Beverly Laumbacher of Crystal Lake, was recognized with two awards—Outstanding Major in Economics and Outstanding Major in Global Studies—during Honors Day May 13 at North Central College in Naperville.

A senior, Jillian is double majoring in economics and global studies with a concentration in international relations at North Central College. She is a graduate of Crystal Lake South High School.

Ben Davis, son of John and Rusti Davis of West Peoria, Ill., was awarded the Outstanding Student in Forensics Award during Honors Day May 13 at North Central College in Naperville.

A senior, Ben is majoring in theatre at North Central College. He is a graduate of Richwoods High School.

Abigail Escatel, daughter of Rafael and Maria Escatel, of Riverside, Ill., was awarded the Outstanding Major in Communication Award during Honors Day May 13 at North Central College in Naperville, Ill.

A junior, Abigail is majoring in speech communication at North Central College. She is a graduate of Willowbrook High School.

U.S. Rep. Bill Foster, a scientist and businessman representing the 11th Congressional District of Illinois, will be the speaker for North Central College’s 149th Commencement on June 14 and receive an honorary doctor of laws degree.

John Stanley, North Central College assistant professor of speech communication, recently received the Dennis-Ross Award for Outstanding Coach Educator.

John Stanley—North Central College assistant professor of speech communication, assistant director of forensics and director of individual events—was honored recently with the Dennis-Ross Award for Outstanding Coach Educator.

The annual award was presented at the State of Illinois Championship Tournament for both speech and debate, held Feb. 28-March 1. The Dennis-Ross Award is administered by the Illinois Intercollegiate Forensics Association (IIFA), which hosts the tournament.

North Central College’s forensics team will showcase this year’s top student performers and presentations at 7 p.m. Friday, March, 7 in Pfeiffer Hall.

Open to the campus community, this event also is a fundraising opportunity to benefit the College’s nationally recognized forensics team. Admission is $5/person with proceeds going to help offset the program’s expenses during the competitive season.  

North Central College begins academic year with record number of students

North Central College began the 2013-2014 academic year Sept. 16 with a record number of students.

North Central College began the 2013-2014 academic year Sept. 16 with a record number of students.

Total enrollment stands at 3,048 undergraduate and graduate students, eclipsing the 3,000 mark for the second straight year. The College welcomed 852 new full-time undergraduate students. Enrollment this fall includes a record number of international students and increased representation of out-of-state students and veterans.
