North Central College’s multicultural life on campus is expanding this fall to incorporate a larger celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month. Though the College promotes many other Hispanic and Latino involvement opportunities throughout the academic year, Sept. 15 to Oct. 15 is devoted to a campus-wide celebration of various Hispanic cultures.

Abigail Escatel was awarded the Outstanding Major in Communication Award in 2014 and in 2015 during North Central College’s annual Honors Convocation.

Abigail Escatel, daughter of Rafael and Maria Escatel, of Riverside, Ill., was awarded the 2014 and 2015 Outstanding Major in Communication Award during Honors Convocation events at North Central College.

A graduating senior, Abigail majored in speech communication. She is a graduate of Willowbrook High School.

Graduate student, alumnus selected for prestigious Prague Summer Program

Rebecca Samson ’12/M ’15 has been selected for a Prague Summer Program, a one-month creative-writing residency in the Czech Republic.

Rebecca Samson ’12/M ’15 has been selected for a prestigious Prague Summer Program, a one-month creative-writing residency in the Czech Republic.

Samson also was awarded one of a few competitive Vaclav Havel scholarships. Samson studied German as an undergraduate and is completing a Masters of Arts in Liberal Studies (MALS) in the Writing, Editing and Publishing track.

She grew up in a Czech household and her passion for Czech history and culture was strengthened after a family trip to Prague in 2011.

2015 Honors Convocation award winners

North Central recognizes high-achieving students for academic and co-curricular excellence at the College’s 39th annual Honors Convocation.

On May 12, North Central College held its 39th annual Honors Convocation, an annual spring event that publicly celebrates student excellence in the academic and co-curricular life of the College. Some 55 students were introduced by faculty members, who recognized them for their academic achievements. In addition, a record 41 College Scholars, eight Richter Grant recipients and some 30 Scholar All-Americans were recognized for their successes.
