Four North Central College faculty serve as panelists in discussions about globalization

Faculty panelists representing different areas of study discuss globalization and its effects on their academic disciplines Oct. 7.

North Central College will present a panel discussion, featuring four North Central faculty members from different areas of study who will discuss the effects of globalization on their academic disciplines. The issue of globalization is a yearlong, campus-wide area of focus.

Free and open to the public, the panel begins at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, in the College’s Harold and Eva White Activities Center, 325 E. Benton Ave.

The 2015 Military Friendly Schools list honors the top colleges, universities and trade schools that are doing the most to embrace America’s military service members and veterans as students. This is the third consecutive year North Central College has earned the recognition.

North Central College began the 2014-2015 academic year Sept. 15 with a near-record number of students.

Total enrollment is a near-record 2,800 undergraduates and 250 graduate students—3,050 total—eclipsing the 3,000 mark for the third straight year. The College welcomed 860 new full-time undergraduate students, up from 852 a year ago. That includes 580 first-year students, up from 529 a year ago. The 860 new undergraduates would be second only to the record-number 882 welcomed in fall 2010.

By giving hope to young residents of the Joliet neighborhood where she grew up, Danara Barlow ’15 has become a hometown hero.

As the recipient of North Central College’s 2014 Mironda K. Heston Scholarship for Human Service, Barlow was awarded a budget of $2,500 to fund work in human rights and service. With her funds, she created Project Better, a program that focuses on inspiring youth and preparing them for college.

Satyan Devadoss, Ph.D., who earned his undergraduate degree in mathematics at North Central College in 1993, has earned the Mathematical Association of America’s (MAA) 2014 Northeastern Section Award (NES) for Distinguished College or University Teaching of Mathematics.
