College Scholar Jack Ryan ’16 presented his mathematics and theatre research at the National Press Club during a press briefing on interdisciplinary studies.

A rare but intriguing combination of mathematics and theatre research by Jack Ryan ’16 resulted in an invitation to speak this week at a Washington, D.C., press briefing at the National Press Club. Ryan was invited to present his research along with other undergraduate scholars as a way to support the mission of the Association of American Colleges and Universities (NAC&U), which sponsored the event.

North Central College invites multicultural involvement on campus with a series of events celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month.

North Central College’s multicultural life on campus is expanding this fall to incorporate a larger celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month. Though the College promotes many other Hispanic and Latino involvement opportunities throughout the academic year, Sept. 15 to Oct. 15 is devoted to a campus-wide celebration of various Hispanic cultures.

Bruce Janacek, North Central College associate professor of history, appeared on Milt Rosenberg’s radio show Sept. 18 on WCGO-AM 1590.

Heidi Nelson was awarded four academic awards during North Central College’s 2015 Honors Convocation.

Heidi Nelson ’15, daughter of David and Sandra Nelson, of Carol Stream, Ill., was awarded the Outstanding Major in Elementary Education, Outstanding Major in Spanish and Outstanding Student in the Arts and Letters Division awards during Honors Day 2015 in May at North Central College. She also was named the 2015 Outstanding Senior Woman.

Manilyn Gumapas ’18, daughter of Emmanuel and Erlyn Gumapas of Elgin, was awarded the Mark A. Reid First-Year Leadership Award during Honors Day in May at North Central College.

Manilyn is majoring in sociology: community studies at North Central College. She is a graduate of Central High School.

The annual awards recognize one senior man and one senior woman for their successes in the classroom, their involvement and contributions to the campus community outside the classroom, and their future potential.
