Nancy Peterson, professor of chemistry, was recently appointed the College’s first coordinator of undergraduate research.

Feb. 18, 2011—Nancy Peterson, professor of chemistry, was recently appointed the College’s first coordinator of undergraduate research. In making the announcement during a faculty meeting fall term 2010, R. Devadoss Pandian, vice president for academic affairs and dean of faculty, noted that one of the objectives of the 2007-2012 Strategic Plan is to expand faculty-student collaboration, including undergraduate research.

Student volunteers train to help with taxes

A record 25 accounting majors are in training and working to pass an IRS exam and become certified to help low-income people with income tax returns.

Feb. 11, 2011—North Central students are participating in the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, providing free federal and state income tax assistance for the elderly, non-English speaking individuals, and low-income families and individuals earning less than $49,000.

Jan. 20, 2011—North Central College will host its 15th Annual International Festival on Feb. 13, offering the community an opportunity to become immersed in a variety of cultures from across the globe. During the festival, visitors can sample authentic international cuisine, enjoy ethnic dancing and live music, experience a language immersion room and take part in games and crafts from around the world.

Nine professors and their students are test subjects in a Learning Studio Research classroom that incorporates the latest thinking in teaching spaces and furniture design. The project is a collaboration with Herman Miller and Widmer Interiors and allows the College to collect needed information.

North Central College continued its tradition of leadership in the recognition and celebration of women’s athletics.

North Central College continued its tradition of leadership in the recognition and celebration of women’s athletics on Tuesday, Feb. 1, conducting its sixth annual National Girls and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD) Luncheon in the Harold and Eva White Activities Center.

A crowd of nearly 200 attendees were on hand for the event, which recognizes the strides made in women’s athletics over the past 60 years.

King’s words helped Brian Lee '01, speaker at the Martin Luther King Jr. Prayer Breakfast, overcome adversity after a season-ending football injury.

Jan. 17, 2011—The keynote speaker at North Central College’s 2011 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Prayer Breakfast says the civil rights leader’s words inspired him to achieve success in his life.

Brian Lee, a 2001 graduate of North Central, told the gathering of nearly 200 students, community leaders and other guests how King’s words helped him overcome adversity when he sustained a season-ending injury during his football-playing days at North Central.
